Springburn Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form situated in Springburn, an inner city district in the north side of Glasgow. It is a state school and was one of the Scottish Government’s Schools of Ambition. Larger than average in size for a school of its type, the school website identifies a school roll of around 800 secondary school students between the ages of 12-17.

The school moved into a brand new building in 2002 as part of Project 2002, a school improvement scheme set up by Glasgow City Council. This move has provided it with a range of new facilities, including 5 ICT rooms, 8 science labs and 3 physical education areas.

“Overall, teaching had important strengths, and was of consistently good quality across the school. Almost all teachers shared the aims of the lesson with their pupils and reviewed their learning at the end. [Strengths include] improvements to attainment, expectations of success and the ethos of the school. [Other strengths include] the impact of the school’s approaches to evaluating learning and teaching [and] the impact of the leadership of the headteacher, with the support of the senior management team.”
