Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful team at a time of curriculum innovation at a school which has recently received a ‘Good’ judgement by Ofsted.  Whether an NQT or experienced teacher, you will enjoy working in this supportive department where your continuing professional development is championed.

• Do you passionately believe that all young people need to be humanities literate to navigate the world around them?

• Can you inspire students to have an enquiring mind?

• Are you ambitious for yourself and others to excel?

If the answer to all three of these is 'yes' and you are a skilled teacher of Humanities who is ambitious for every single child who enters your class, then please read on.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Humanities department at Brimsham Green School. You will be joining a team of experienced teachers, several of whom have additional senior and middle leadership roles in school. Your humanities specialism is secondary to being a great teacher of students, and we can accommodate any discipline.  A confident willingness to teach GCSE Business Studies will be an advantage and there may be an opportunity for the right candidate to also teach A-level Economics.  The department is well led, and leadership is distributed between the Head of Faculty, the Head of Business and a Key Stage three Co-ordinator.

Uptake at A Level is very strong, an indicator of the engagement in learning instilled in students throughout KS3 and KS4. Brimsham Green works in partnership with two other local schools as part of Cotswold Edge, a collaborative sixth form, serving the needs of students locally. A Level History, Geography, Religious Studies and Economics are currently all taught at Brimsham.

At KS4, many students chose to study humanities subjects. The KS3 curriculum prepares students for these qualifications by emphasising an investigative approach to learning, developing the skills and subject knowledge to enable them to excel. The department's goal is for all students to develop a deep understanding of all humanities subjects in KS3 and for the majority to want to pursue their humanities learning further.

The department is well-resourced, and students' independent learning is promoted. Students have access to online resources, and we are a PiXL partner school.

In return for your hard work, passion and commitment we offer:

• Bespoke CPD, whether you are an NQT or an experienced teacher - we firmly believe 'better never stops'

• A supportive team of departmental colleagues who involve themselves fully in the pastoral and social life of the school

• The opportunity to join a committed team of staff who believe that teaching is a great profession, and who challenge each other to excel

Should you decide that you would like to join the staff team here at Brimsham, challenging and supporting our enthusiastic learners, then we look forward to reading your completed application form. Within your supporting statement, please address the following points (this should not exceed two sides of A4):

1. How you have successfully challenged and supported students of varying abilities to make good progress.

2. How you have successfully supported disadvantaged students to make good progress.

3. Your confidence and competence teaching Humanities subjects outside of your specialism

The closing date for this post is 9:00 a.m. on Monday 17 June. If you have not heard from us by Friday 21 June then you should assume that unfortunately you have not been shortlisted on this occasion.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About Brimsham Green School

A Little About Us...

Our school is a  mixed comprehensive, maintained by South Gloucestershire Local Authority. We are situated in large, well-maintained school grounds in Yate (a 30 minute commute from central Bristol). Larger than average for a secondary school, we offer 1,235 places to 11-19 year olds when fully subscribed.

A Warm Welcome

Visitors to the school consistently comment on how friendly and welcoming Brimsham staff and students are. This matters to us. We believe that students and staff thrive when they feel well-supported and cared for, and this enables them to flourish.

Inspiring ALL to Excel

Our shared vision is to inspire ALL students to excel.  We firmly believe that our learners have limitless potential, and our responsibility is to nurture this talent, so that students and staff achieve more than they thought possible.

So, how do we translate this into reality?  We promote skills and values that are important to us, such as independence and aspiration, and a deeply held belief that 'better never stops'. To this end, we are proud of the professional learning community we have established amongst staff, evident through our lively and engaging CPD programme, run by teachers for teachers. The programme supports staff at all stages of their career.

Most importantly we aim to develop hardworking, independent learners who themselves are motivated to achieve.  Being confident, being ambitious, aspiring to be the next generation of leaders - these are all attributes we value.

Above all else though we understand that teaching and learning does not just happen in classrooms, or stop at the school gate, so we actively work with parents and community-based projects to give our students the very best opportunities to succeed.

Our school community is proudly inclusive, and we focus on celebrating our differences so that we better understand each other and the community within which we live. Ultimately we are proud that our students leave us with the personal qualities and academic qualifications to lead happy, successful lives, achieving more than they thought possible.

Our Vision

Brimsham Green School nurtures the limitless potential of all learners, inspiring students and staff to excel.

We Aim To:

  • Be an inclusive community school
  • Be a happy, safe and resilient learning community
  • Develop ambitious, confident students who contribute readily to their community
  • Develop hardworking, independent learners who are highly motivated to achieve their full potential
  • Promote the acquisition of personal, social, academic and technological skills
