This is a wonderful opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher to engage with our students as we seek to accomplish our vision:

A truly exceptional international learning environment that empowers all students to lead meaningful, positive and impactful lives.

BISW was founded in 1998 and currently has 510 students representing almost 60 different nationalities from 2 until 18 years of age. We have a teaching staff of 51 who are mainly British and the whole staff is multi-national and multi-cultural. The School is housed in a sizeable mid-20th century red-brick building in the centre of the world’s main diplomatic capital, near the green Dumbarton Oaks and in historic Georgetown.

The School has offered the IPC programme since August 2005, the IMYC since 2009, IGCSEs since 2007 and the IB Diploma since 2003.  There is strong emphasis on making the learning experience one, where students are encouraged to be ambitious whilst respecting others and being trustworthy. We want our students to enjoy coming to school and learn through structured inquiry and critical thought.

The school is part of the Nord Anglia family of 43 schools, benefitting from collaborations with Juillard School, MIT, UNICEF, Kings College London and various other Nord Anglia enhancements to our school.

BISW is an inclusive school with good support for English language learners and for children with learning challenges.  The majority of our student body are Mother Tongue English speakers.

Our ideal candidate profile is someone:

  • with experience as a teacher in an international setting;
  • with a 'growth mindset';
  • who is excited by pedagogical advancements and eager to work collaboratively with members of our community;
  • who will be an advocate for the role of student inquiry, critical thinking and assessment in all its forms;
  • who presents confidently and articulately with parents, teachers and students;
  • who can enjoy being and collaborate with an excellent school faculty and staff;
  • who develops global citizens and leaders within the student body;
  • who will support this Nord Anglia school in successfully implementing the school strategic plan;
  • who will enjoy the benefits of living in Washington, DC.
