Job overview

The Design department is looking for a new member of a growing team in a vibrant department who can enhance our broad range of skills and interests. We are seeking an MYP Design teacher who is willing to teach both Product and Digital Design lessons. Design teachers are expected to be fully comfortable with explicitly teaching the Design Cycle within computer labs, workshops and digital classrooms. 

Digital Design focuses on skills such as graphics/media, programming, spreadsheets, and databases. The candidate would be expected to be proficient in most of these skills. 

In addition, the candidate should be familiar with Google Apps for Education, Apple desktop computers and iPads. The candidate will have to demonstrate a willingness to include in their Continuous Professional Development skills for new technologies (e.g. robotics, 3D printing, and virtual reality). 

For Product Design, the school has a full range of CAM/CAD facilities and familiarity with laser cutting, 3D printing and vector sketching software will be highly desirable. The department is seeking a candidate who can provide a balanced approach to developing students in both manual and digital skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

Requirements: 

  • Qualified Teacher with at least 3 years teaching experience.
  • Experience of teaching MYP Design (or national equivalent)
  • A Bachelors or Masters degree plus relevant teaching qualification (your qualification should clearly indicate the subject that you are applying to teach in)
  • Hold a fully qualified teacher status in the country the qualification is obtained (eg. in the UK you will have completed the PGCE and been awarded QTS plus successfully completed the statutory induction period)
  • EU citizen or have a valid permit to work in The Netherlands.


Preferences:

  • Experience of teaching both Digital and Product (or national equivalents)

This is a temporary appointment for one year, with a view to a permanent contract after successful appraisal and if all the conditions are met. The position is based on the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Secondary Education. 

Other benefits include the 8% holiday allowance, a year-end bonus of 8% and a contribution towards travel expenses and the ABP pension scheme.

The Hague is a beautiful city located behind the sand dunes and adjacent to miles of clean and attractive beaches. It is the only major city in the Netherlands that lies directly at the sea, and it is known as 'the largest village in Europe' although it continues to grow in size.
