The position

St. Lawrence College, Athens, Greece is currently seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Teacher of First Language IGCSE and A-Level Chinese to meet the growing demand for these qualifications within our senior school. In addition to teaching duties, this individual will also undertake a new role; that of Chinese pupil welfare officer. 

Brief Job description

The successful applicant will be responsible for the teaching of First Language IGCSE Mandarin Chinese and A-Level Mandarin Chinese to pupils aged 14-18 who select these subjects. He or she will work closely with colleagues in the modern languages department and elsewhere in the school, developing schemes of work, creating and sourcing teaching aids, developing and implementing assessment tasks engaging all pupils in the attainment of skills related to this subject.

St. Lawrence College places great importance on the excellence of the delivery of pastoral care and on the provision of extracurricular activities for all pupils. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to these vital spheres of British education fully and with enthusiasm. Most importantly, the successful applicant will specifically undertake the role of Chinese pupil welfare officer. As such, he or she will help maintain and promote the full integration of our Chinese pupils into our broader school community and will assist in meetings and discussions relating to all aspects of education and pupil progress with pupils and parents whose English language skills are limited.

Brief person specification

In addition to appropriate teaching qualifications and, preferably, experience teaching Chinese in a British or international school, the successful applicant will possess excellent communication skills and an appreciation for working as a member of a school community. The successful applicant will possess strong oral and written English skills. Greek language skills are not a pre-requisite. 

The successful applicant will be available to work from 31st August 2020.

Remuneration

Our new colleague will receive a competitive salary by standards of British education in Greece plus Christmas, Easter and summer bonuses and other benefits. The successful applicant will work alongside friendly and supportive colleagues across our 20-acre school campus set in the stunning natural surroundings of the suburbs in southern Athens.
