Tes is supporting the appointment of a Teacher of Indian Classical Music at an independent school based in Hertfordshire.

Music is exceptional at the school and plays a crucial role in their community. It is a busy department with 505 instrumental lessons and 45 ensembles running weekly. They have a small but dedicated group of students who are leading concerts based around the Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. 

The school would love to appoint a mentor for these students, ideally someone who can inspire these students to develop their skills as well as opening up this music to the boarder community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 lessons in one or both major Indian classical music styles (Carnatic and/or Hindustani).
  • Lead an ensemble and prepare them towards performances in school concerts.
  • Advise/lead on the development of an annual evening concert that celebrates this music, as well as termly lunchtime concerts.
  • Encourage and develop further uptake in the study and performance of Indian Classical music.
  • Write termly reports.
  • Complete required compliance and safeguarding training.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Advise on the inclusion of this style within the wider concert program.

  • Passionate about Indian Classical music.
  • Dedicated and considered educator who is able to inspire students from all backgrounds and disciplines.
  • A natural communicator with an infectious love for their subject.
  • High level of interpersonal skills who is able to work as part of a team.
  • An organised person who is able to keep accurate records of their work.
