Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Design specialist to join our Interactive Media delivery team for September 2017.  

You will be a dedicated and motivated professional keen to contribute to a vibrant and thriving Media curriculum with the ability to prepare all our learners for today’s global creative industries or progression to Higher Education.  

You will have experience teaching design, interactive design and/or be a design industry specialist. Knowledge of digital graphics, print and/or website design is essential.  Excellent administration and interpersonal skills together with a commitment to working effectively as part of a team are also essential in this role.   

You’ll also contribute to the development of new strategies to improve the delivery and quality of teaching and learning on our Level 2 and Level 3 programmes.  

The position would provide an ideal opportunity for a design professional to move into the education sector, which has benefits such as a generous holiday allowance, chance for progression and a good pension scheme. Ideally you will be degree qualified in graphic design or related subject and hold a teaching qualification or a willingness to work towards one. 

In addition to the minimum requirements detailed above, candidates must also have a Level 2 or equivalent qualification in maths and English or be willing to work towards them.  

The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain their strong industry links, develop collaborative activities with industry partners, add to the department’s research and knowledge and enhance students’ employability prospects in the creative industries.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
