Leigh Academy Blackheath is growing, in fact, we are about to double in size!  As we prepare to move into our second year, we are now looking for a number of inspiring individuals to join our teaching team in September 2019, when we welcome our second cohort of Year 7 students. Leigh Academy Blackheath is a place where tradition meets innovation and the potential of staff and students is realised within a nurturing community.  If you want to join a highly successful team who are passionate about research-informed education, and you can inspire learners to go beyond what they are taught and seek what they do not yet know, then we want to hear from you.

We have a vacancy for a Teacher of IT who can deliver high-quality learning opportunities for our students in this curriculum area.  Applications are welcomed from both experienced and newly qualified teachers as we can offer fantastic professional development at every stage of a teacher’s career.  As a start-up school, this role will grow as our numbers continue to increase, with the possibility of promotion to a curriculum leadership position for the right candidate in the future.  The role can be offered on a full or part-time basis (minimum 0.6fte) based on our successful teacher’s preference and experience across different curriculum areas.  All new teaching positions are offered on a permanent basis.  The duties and responsibilities associated with this post are in line with the National Teaching Standards - please click here to view the Job Description.

Working at Leigh Academy Blackheath:  We are a co-educational 11-18yr comprehensive school and, already oversubscribed, our new school is a beacon of excellence for secondary education in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.  We are driven by the belief that every learner is entitled to an enriching, varied and personalised education; delivered through a broad and balanced curriculum that provides challenge, irrespective of need, starting point or background.  Our mission is to ensure all our students develop into powerful citizens of the digital future on both a national and global scale.

Our strong learning community works together and shares the value of collaboration; every member of our academy family works together to achieve success, cultivating a strong sense of belonging. Our belief in ‘human-scale’ education, delivered through a schools-within-schools model, ensures every one of our students is known and valued. Strong pastoral care is at the heart of our academy and we place great importance on building strong partnerships with parents and carers.

Working in a brand new school is a unique opportunity.  A flexible approach with a can-do ethos is required, as is drive, grit and boundless enthusiasm.  A sense of humour is essential!

Our successful candidates will receive:

- A salary commensurate with the profile of the post

- Bespoke CPD with mentoring and coaching opportunities

- The opportunity to work laterally across a number of Leigh Academies Trust schools to benchmark best practice and to be involved in teaching and learning innovation

We’d like to hear from you if you are:

- An excellent teacher who is passionate about learning and has strong subject knowledge

- Collaborative, able to build strong professional relationships

- Able to motivate and inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential

- Energetic and have a ‘can-do’ attitude

- Confident and has strong career aspirations

- Committed to safeguarding and the happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the academy

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  As of 1st January 2019, our Trust is comprised of 23 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 11 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.  We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open in September 2020.  The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.  If you have any queries regarding the role or the application process, please contact the LAT Talent Team on 01634 412 245 or email us at talent@latrust.org.uk.
