An oversubscribed and outstanding school with an exceptional reputation is looking for an inspirational and ambitious Italian linguist who has the flair and passion to work within a committed team teaching motivated and talented students. There is the possibility for the right candidate to lead the subject or take on another teaching and learning responsibility within the College. Hockerill Anglo-European College offers a highly distinctive curriculum with language provision at its core.
The College has a strong international perspective and offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma and Middle Years Programmes, alongside GCSEs. History, Geography and Music are delivered through the bilingual section in French and German and the curriculum ranges from beginners’ to Literature courses for native speakers. It runs a large number of international trips and exchanges as well as Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Experience of the International Baccalaureate would be viewed with interest but is not a prerequisite.
At Hockerill Anglo-European College, Italian is taught from Year 8 (age 12) through to GCSE and Sixth Form level. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, at sixth form, offers Language A (for native speakers), Language B (non-native speakers) and Ab Initio (beginners). Both Language A and B are at Higher and Standard levels.
Hockerill Anglo-European College is currently ranked third in the Times Schools Guide 2019 list of comprehensive and partially selective schools, based on our IB and GCSE performance in 2018. Last summer, our Year 13 students gained an average point score of 36 points, while 20% achieved 40 points or above, which placed them in the top 5% globally and equated to 4A* at A Level. Our GCSE results are also consistently high with 53% of students achieving 9-7 in 2019. Hockerill performs very strongly in Progress 8 scores.
The College is situated in Bishop’s Stortford within the beautiful landscaped grounds of a former teacher training college and is within 30 minutes of both London and Cambridge, with Stansted Airport just 10 minutes away. We have a roll of 846 students, both day and boarding, including a Sixth Form of 250 students.
