Part-time Teacher of Korean (must already be based in Singapore)

Situated on a spacious, leafy campus with impressive facilities, SJI International High School is an independent coeducational Lasallian Catholic day school. Currently in its eleventh year, the school has grown steadily and enjoys an outstanding reputation for quality education in Singapore. The school follows a Southern Hemisphere academic year (January to December). The student body numbers some 1040 students (aged 12 - 18), with 390 IB Diploma students in Grades 11 and 12. Academic standards are very high. The average IB Diploma score for our most recent cohort of students was 37.2 points (in 2016), with 32.4% of our students achieving 40 points or more (a record for the school). Our most recent A*/A pass rate at IGCSE was 68% (34% at A*).

Academic excellence is, however, only part of the SJI International story. The school prides itself on its values driven and holistic programme. This includes service (a central part of our mission) and leadership programmes, an extensive range of co-curricular activities and an exciting outdoor education programme. Applications for teaching posts are welcomed from enthusiastic, ambitious teachers of all religious denominations who are prepared to support our Lasallian Catholic ethos and play a full part in our thriving school community.

Commitment to Safe Recruitment

SJI International is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its care. As an employer, the school expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and all post holders are appointed subject to satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Checks. Long-listed candidates will also be required to complete and sign an Information and Declaration Form, which includes a declaration of any previous disciplinary issues or criminal convictions.

SJI International is seeking to employ the following for January 2018
(newly appointed staff will need to arrive by Monday, 8th January, 2018)

Part-time Teacher of Korean

Over the past year, SJI International has developed a Home Language programme designed to foster languages with which students have a linguistic or cultural background which are not taught within the mainstream curriculum. The language will be taught individually or in very small groups. We are seeking to appoint a qualified teacher of Korean who is a fluent speaker and is able to teach Korean Language and Literature, inspiring students with a love of their Mother Tongue (Korean). This exciting programme will be implemented for the first time in January 2018 and the role is anticipated to grow with time (initially starting with 90 minutes per week). Teachers will be supported by our highly experienced Coordinator of Mother Tongue Languages. As this position is part time, only teachers ordinarily resident in Singapore from January 2018 will be considered. Please visit our website for more details.

Application Process

All applications for this position must be submitted through Schrole. The link to our Schrole page can be found on our Employment Page or via the following Schrole link.

Candidates will be required to submit a letter of application (2 pages maximum) and an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae. You will also need to include the names and contact details of at least three referees (professional referees who have line managed you), one of which must be the Head of your current/most recent school (if this is not possible, please explain reason in your letter of application).

The closing date for receipt of applications for this position is Sunday, 22 October. Interviews will take place by Skype or in Singapore shortly after this date.

Additional Requirements

For all teaching posts the successful candidates will have a good first degree in their teaching specialism, a recognised teaching qualification and a proven track record as inspirational teachers (all required to obtain a Singapore teaching licence). The ability to teach across the age and ability range from Grade 7 (12 year-olds) to IB Diploma level is preferred unless a middle school / IB Diploma specialism is specifically stated. Significant training and development opportunities are available for teachers (both in-house and through external providers) and the desire to take part in and contribute to collaborative school and personal development is essential.
