Job overview

The children, staff, and Governing Body of Alston Primary School are excited to welcome a dedicated and creative Class Teacher to join our friendly and hardworking team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a school that sits at the heart of its community.

Alston Primary School has approximately 90 children on role and is part of a federation of three schools. It is co-located with our secondary school making it a unique, innovative and exciting place to work.

You will be teaching for two days per week, supported by teaching assistants. The role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of all pupils while fostering a positive, nurturing classroom environment. We are offering a fixed term contract due to staffing uncertainties. This post may have the potential for a permanent contract commencing in September 2025.

We welcome applications from both recently qualified and experienced teachers.

As a small, community-based school, we are committed to serving local children and their families. Our ethos centres around being caring and inclusive, ensuring that we provide an excellent academic grounding for all our pupils. The nature of our school allows us to build meaningful relationships with each child and their family, placing us firmly at the heart of the Alston community.

We warmly encourage all prospective candidates to visit our school. Should you wish to do so, please do not hesitate to contact Diane Smith in our School Office on 01434381236 or dsmith@alston.cumbria.sch.uk

The closing date for applications is Friday, 28th February 2025 at 12noon. We will contact all applicants to inform them whether their application has been successful. Interviews are planned to take place shortly after that.

Application pack is available on the school website.

Electronic applications are fully acceptable and these should be emailed to office@samuelkings.cumbria.sch.uk marked for the attention of Mrs Pamela Seaton, our business manager.

Candidates called for interview will be contacted by phone in the first instance with detailed information following by email. I hope you will consider joining our team and I look forward to receiving your application.

Please do not hesitate to get back to me should you wish to discuss the role further or arrange a visit.

At Alston Moor Federation we take safeguarding very seriously and consequently the successful candidate will be required to complete a DBS enhanced check. Please do not include CVs with your application as these will be disregarded for safeguarding purposes.

Values and Vision

The small size of the school is one of the things making it unique, a factor which the school describes as “a real alternative to the ever growing factory-like secondary schools that have mushroomed in recent years”. It is a safe and encouraging school that provides its students with a varied and valuable education.

Despite having no sixth form college, it has links with sixth form colleges in the area to help students have a smooth transition into further education.

Ofsted

“The very large majority of parents are pleased with the quality of education the school provides. They rightly value the good personal support given to students and recognised that students feel safe at school. Students are given good advice and support, which enables them to make well informed choices about the next stage of their education, training and employment. Students make good progress in French, dance and drama.”
