Job overview

We are currently seeking to recruit for September 2020, a talented, inspirational, dynamic and well-qualified Teacher of LAMDA/Drama. Ideally, the successful candidate should be an experienced LAMDA teacher and be able to teach Drama to A Level. The ability to teach English to Key Stage 3 or above would be desirable but is not essential, to afford flexibility of timetabling across the two subjects.

Drama sits within the English Department at The Mount School York. It is taught as a separate subject in Key Stage 3 and offered at GCSE and A Level. The successful candidate will in the first instance teach all peripatetic LAMDA lessons across both our Junior School and Senior School, from Key Stage 1 to Sixth Form. There is also a possibility of teaching some curriculum Drama to KS3. There is scope, however, for this role to expand in future academic years and grow in terms of teaching commitment. Applications are therefore welcome from candidates who can offer combinations of LAMDA with Drama and/or English. We are not seeking a sole English teacher and LAMDA/Drama must be the first subject specialism.

The applicant should have an excellent understanding and broad knowledge of theatre practice and theory, covering a range of practitioners, styles and traditions from different cultures and eras. They should also be an experienced LAMDA teacher and have a track record of success in that field.

LAMDA is a thriving extra-curricular activity at The Mount School and we have a track record of achieving distinctions across the board in all LAMDA categories, including Gold Medal standard. The total teaching time in any academic year varies according to the number of pupils who request peripatetic LAMDA lessons but currently, over 63 pupils take LAMDA in either individual or group lessons and LAMDA makes up 50% of a full-time timetable for the member of staff concerned. The successful candidate will also be expected to play a part in running wider extra-curricular Drama activities and working with the Head of English on the annual school production.
