About Lochgilphead Joint Campus

Why Lochgilphead Joint Campus?

Our pupils are fantastic – polite, friendly and fully engaged with their learning. They contribute significantly to the life of the whole campus and to the community and we enjoy warm and mutually respectful relationships between teachers and pupils. Our attainment is excellent, particularly at Higher and Advanced Higher and we were ranked 42nd in the Sunday Times list of the top 50 schools in Scotland this year.

We have a brilliant staff team where, again, relationships are strong and very supportive. New members of staff are made very welcome and there is lots of help and advice for the practicalities of re-locating to mid-Argyll. Our campus is now 10 years old but the facilities remain first class and we have a good ICT infrastructure to support teaching and learning. We invest in staff CPD and put raising attainment at the heart of our improvement agenda.

Schools in Argyll and Bute benefit from close links with the central Education Management Team. Every school has a link Quality Improvement Officer who meets with staff and visits regularly to offer advice and support. There is a clear vision for education in the authority – our children, their future – and a strong commitment to continuous improvement. Staff welfare and health and wellbeing are also given priority and a culture of trust prevails.

Staff come to Lochgilphead and stay in Lochgilphead, setting down roots, creating families and becoming part of a lovely community. Why don’t you give it a try?

Living in Mid-Argyll

Mid-Argyll is a beautiful area, with much to commend it historically and culturally, from the standing stones in the majestic Kilmartin Glen to the vibrant local arts scene which fully utilises our unique landscape and environment. Opportunities for outdoor pursuits abound – sailing, kayaking, hill-walking, cycling, running, horse-riding – and there is a strong commitment to traditional music and dance which permeates our communities.

Property prices are generally competitive and there is a good stock of social housing, although waiting lists are to be expected. Lochgilphead and the surrounding areas are great places for families – largely safe, friendly and welcoming, with many local events and activities in which to become involved.

Another advantage is our proximity to Glasgow – exactly two hours door to door, so day trips for shopping, cinema visits or concerts is more than manageable. Oban is about forty minutes away and has good shopping and leisure facilities.

Argyll is a tourist destination and there are some excellent opportunities within easy travelling distance such as the Portavadie Marina and Spa which is a great day out. For foodies, destinations abound, from the long-established Crinan Hotel to the Kilberry Inn, made famous by a review in a national newspaper by the redoubtable Tam Cowan!
