As one of the first schools in the North East selected to participate in the exciting Swire Chinese Language Programme, Gosforth Academy is seeking to appoint two highly motivated and exceptional teachers of Mandarin. This is an exciting project which aims to generate an interest in Chinese culture and provide opportunity for students to acquire vital skills in what is recognised as one of the most important languages for the UK’s future. Alongside traditional classroom teaching, the project offers extensive opportunities for exchanges and visits to China, and the chance to deliver an outreach programme working in a range of diverse schools from reception to Year 13.

Gosforth Federated Academies comprises two schools (Gosforth Academy and Gosforth Junior High Academy) which are rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. The school population is richly diverse and over 30 different languages are currently spoken here. You will join a professional modern languages department noted for the sharing of effective pedagogy. We work closely with our feeder schools in the three tier system and with our partner secondary school, Seaton Burn College. The successful candidates will be expected to teach curriculum lessons at Seaton Burn and lead outreach work in the Gosforth family of schools.

This is an amazing opportunity for educators with a genuine passion for Chinese culture to enjoy teaching a range of age-groups within both formal and less conventional environments. Gosforth Academy has a thrilling future with the establishment of new schools within our multi-academy trust. We are seeking to establish a hub of excellence in Chinese teaching, ultimately leading to a significant number of candidates at GCSE and A level. There are opportunities within this project for teachers specialising in both primary and secondary sectors.

If you can deliver a high quality, lively curriculum to challenge and inspire all of our students we would like to hear from you. If you would like to discuss the roles please contact Chris Duckett, Director of Communications, Teaching and Learning at the above address.

Gosforth Academy is a dynamic and diverse school. We have 1700 students with around 600 in our Sixth Form.  In 2008 Ofsted rated us as ‘Outstanding’ saying ‘This is a school in which nothing is merely ordinary and much is exemplary’.

Our main areas of excellence are languages, post 16 education, the gifted and talented curriculum, social inclusion, and the development of teaching and learning.

Students transfer from our Junior High and two other middle schools at the end of Year 8. We work very closely with these schools to ensure a coherent KS3 and a smooth transition for students. The three-tier arrangement is very popular with parents and the Local Authority has no plans to rationalise schooling arrangements in the city.
