Teacher of Mathematics (1 Year Contract)

We seek to appoint a first-rate Teacher of Mathematics to join an exceptionally successful and supportive department, to teach the Department’s curriculum across the full age and ability range. The successful candidate will be a conscientious, dedicated team-player who has excellent subject knowledge and a passion for Mathematics, with the ability to enthuse students.

Mathematics is always one of the most popular subjects at A-level and we currently have five Single Maths groups and two Further Maths groups in each of the Sixth Form years.

The Department aims to promote the enjoyment and appreciation of Mathematics beyond the curriculum; this is at the heart of its philosophy. We have a large entry every year to all levels of the UKMT Maths Challenges with many gaining gold certificates and progressing to the higher rounds. There is a school team in the London-based Hans Woyda Competition and students regularly attend the Maths in Action lectures. We have a programme of guest speakers at Forest.  These have included  Marcus du Sautoy, Matt Parker, Alex Bellos and Kjartan Poskitt of Murderous Maths fame.  As part of our partnership with local schools we host other students in our Additional Maths programme for Year 11.

Results are excellent within the department. Over the last two years when public examinations were taken, 80% of students at Key Stage 4 have achieved grades 7 to 9.  33% achieved a grade 9, and 61% achieved a grade 8 or 9. At A-level over the same period, our students achieved a 67% A*/A rate in Mathematics and 73% in Further Maths. 47% of Further Mathematicians gained an A*.  Three students have secured offers to read Mathematics at Cambridge in the past few years.
