Portlethen Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in Portlethen, south of Aberdeen. It is a community state school. The latest Portlethen Academy handbook identifies a school roll of 800 secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 11-18.

The academy first opened in April 1987 and moved to a new building adjacent to the original school in June 2006, a building which provided the school with a larger area to study in.

It is an academy that never fails to challenge its learners, but supports them in a way that will help them grow as people.

Education Scotland

“Young people benefit from a range of high-quality learning experiences, both in and out of school. They really enjoy learning where the work is well planned, challenging and relevant. They respond very well to tasks which involve them in making choices and decisions, especially as part of a group. In these tasks, young people take on responsibility for their own learning very effectively. They support and develop well the learning of others by sharing their own knowledge.”
