About Clairvaux MacKillop College

Clairvaux MacKillop College is a co-educational, secondary catholic school located in the Brisbane suburb of Upper Mount Gravatt, 12 kilometres south of the CBD. The school has a population of 1,213 students, supported by 101 teaching staff.

The school is an amalgamation of two Catholic Colleges, Clairvaux College and MacKillop Catholic College, established in 1966 and 1971 respectively. In 1984 the decision was made to combine the two schools to create Clairvaux MacKillop College.

Facilities

Students are located in three centres of learning: the Formation Centre (Years 7 and 8), the Junior Centre (Years 9 and 10) and the Senior Centre (Years 11 and 12). All centres have access to the Edmund Rice Centre for learning support. The school is well-equipped with ICT facilities and each student is provided with a college laptop.

Curriculum

Clairvaux MacKillop College follows the Australian Curriculum, in Years 7 and 8 students take seven core subjects including religious education and are also offered a wide variety of taster subjects including home economics, industrial technology and design, visual arts, music, dance, Japanese, information and communication technology, business education, and media. Year 9 and 10 students continue with core subjects and choose elective subjects which run for a semester each. Year 10 students also complete a careers investigation unit and are introduced to the senior curriculum. Year 11 and 12 students can elect to take subjects that will allow them a tertiary entrance or they can choose vocational subjects through TAFE and begin apprenticeships or traineeships.

Clairvaux MacKillop College’s school motto is commitment, compassion, celebration. The college takes inspiration from Luke 9:11 in guiding the school as a Christian Learning community. It aims to “educate today’s youth spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and morally”, while fostering “the development of self-discipline, self-motivation, responsibility and accountability”.
