Job overview

The Mathematics department consists of five teachers who teach Years 6-13. The department has grown considerably alongside the school, with the introduction of the Sixth Form and three-form entry in each year group. The continued success of the department reflects the strong teamwork, quality of teaching and sharing of good practice. Making mistakes is an integral part of learning and making progress in Mathematics.

Students follow the EDEXCEL IGCE syllabus. All students are entered for GCSE, with some students also opting to do Further Maths GCSE (AQA). We are justifiably proud of our consistently high value added outcomes. At Key Stage 5 we follow the EDEXCEL A-Level syllabus and the AQA Mathematical Studies Syllabus. Four pupils opted for the Mathematical Studies course last year, all achieving an A grade.

About Blanchelande College

About Blanchelande College

Blanchelande College is a co-educational Catholic independent school for boys and girls from age 2 ½ to 18 in Guernsey, the Channel Islands. Following the opening of a new Sixth Form in September 2020, and a new Nursery in September 2021, and rapid growth since 2016, the College currently educates 460 pupils. Blanchelande’s Catholic mission and identity, understood and supported by all staff, are at the heart of school life. Approximately one third of students and staff are Catholic, demonstrating our inclusive and welcoming ethos. Blanchelande is Guernsey’s only independent Catholic school and is situated in the parish of St Andrews, within the stunning Les Vauxbelets rural estate.

Blanchelande has a one-form structure from Nursery and Reception to Year 4, with room for two forms in Years 5 and 6, and for three forms in the senior school (Years 7-11). Classes sizes are typically around twenty. Sixth Form cohorts are smaller, enabling students to benefit from seminar-style A-Level teaching, a superb preparation for university.

Values and Vision

Founded in 1902, Blanchelande is a Catholic school rooted in love of God and service to neighbour. The College educates over 460 boys and girls of a range of backgrounds and beliefs, from Nursery to Year 13. The school offers an excellent academic and co-curricular education which fosters joyful, confident and successful pupils. In its 2018 ISI inspection the College was rated ‘excellent’ for both pupil achievement and pupil development.
