Job overview

The Mathematics Department is looking to recruit enthusiastic and engaging individuals to join its friendly team of dedicated professionals.

At Queen Mary’s College we understand the importance of recruiting skilled and well-qualified staff to maintain excellence in all that we do. We are committed to high-quality, innovative education and student support services and pride ourselves on our welcoming, supportive and friendly environment. We never stand still and our best keeps getting better thanks to the enthusiasm, creativity and commitment of our team.

Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Value added data places us in the top 10% of all A- level providers.

The Mathematics Department consists of a modern suite of classrooms with smartboard projection facilities and a workroom with computers available for staff use. Around 400 students are currently studying level 3 math’s courses and there are also around 250 students working towards GCSE. We have an excellent record of student achievement and staff work closely together to develop teaching materials and course planning. The Department also offers a range of enrichment opportunities for students, including personal finance and support for university admissions tests. There are regular events, trips and competitions, including the National Cipher Challenge and a regional engineering challenge. Staff can also have the opportunity to escort student groups on one of several residential trips to participate in voluntary projects in the developing world.

Whoever joins us as a Teacher of Mathematics will teach a timetable that could include a range of courses from the Departmental provision. Wherever possible there will be flexibility over the subjects and aspects to be taught, taking into account, your personal experience, skills and preferences. There will also be opportunities to teach across departments, although naturally this can’t always be guaranteed. In addition to your duties as a teacher, we’ll rely on you to act as a Personal Tutor – a vital role that involves motivating, monitoring, supporting and guiding students’ academic progress through the College via regular one-to-one consultations.

Our priorities are to maintain and extend our examination success and to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and achievement. We seek to ensure that we provide students with a high-quality experience of learning that is innovative, interesting and challenging and helps them acquire the skills and knowledge essential for their progression. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher to join our outstanding team and be part of our friendly and supportive environment.
