Job overview

The Mathematics department is forward thinking and dynamic department that is on a journey with the goal of becoming an outstanding department. We are a diverse team, with a wealth of experiences and skills – ranging from Curriculum Leader, Assistant Curriculum Leader and Lead Practitioner, to NQTs and a salaried ITT student.

Progress in maths is strong and students make more progress than their peers nationally. We achieve strongly at the very top end, and this is further enhanced through the extra-curricular delivery of further maths which is offered to our most able mathematicians.

Pupils in years 7 and 8 follow a mastery scheme of work, which nurtures and develops their secure understanding of key areas thus ensuring a secure transition into Key Stage 4. This has been developed in conjunction with other academies in the Trust to ensure continuity and effectiveness. The use of ICT and in particular the use of the “Mathswiz” programme enhances pupils learning and progress at Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 4 is being taught from years 9 to 11 and follows the Edexcel 1 – 12 wheeled system at either foundation or higher levels. The team is committed to maximising all students expected/good progress outcomes (3-4 levels from Key Stage 2). This is a key area of focus to ensure we can support all of our students to achieve their full potential. Regular diagnostic testing allows us to identify and address the needs of individual students.

The department is situated in a dedicated area, and all classrooms have Smart interactive white boards and access to a set of departmental laptops ensuring that ICT is available for lessons where required. We invest in programmes such as Pinpoint to enhance learning for students.

We encourage innovation both in and outside the classroom. Activities such as maths trails, maths challenge days, History of Maths Week and visits to investigate mathematics in local areas such as Manchester Airport are also part of the curriculum. Students are therefore able to appreciate the real-life application of the skills they acquire in maths lessons.

The mathematics team look forward to working with a committed and talented colleague, who will be able to develop strong relationships with both staff and students, contributing to the consistent delivery of high quality teaching and learning. As such we are open to applications from trainees, NQTs and qualified teachers.

If you want to be part of this journey and you feel that you would be an excellent addition to our team, then we would like to hear from you.

Closing date for applications: 9am Wednesday 5th June 2019.

(previous applicants need not apply)

Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check via the DBS. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Moor End is a converter Academy that opened on 17th August 2011. We converted as an outstanding school. Prior to this we were a community school. Moor End is a National Support school.  We play a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers and contribute towards the raising of standards across the school system through school to school support.

We are an award winning Academy and have continued to be recognised by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’.  We are a truly inclusive school that welcomes students of all abilities. Our aim is to create a safe, stimulating, ambitious and caring environment to enable our students to thrive and achieve excellence; to make certain our future generation have the self-confidence to use their talents and skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our vision is to maximise every child’s potential to ensure we can confidently say,” we gave every student his or her GCSE passport to success.” We passionately believe, as educators, we have the power and responsibility to inspire our students to be the best they can be to enable our learners to pursue their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our motivation is to ensure that positive relationships are at the core of what we do every day, along with high quality teaching and pastoral care overseen by strong leadership. What we believe will follow is a strong ethos, and students with high expectations who demonstrate exceptional behaviour and want to be part of our school community.

We insist on high standards of behaviour, appearance, work ethic and respect for all to enable our staff to teach our students well so they learn to the best of their ability and leave the Academy with a first-class education.

Central to our ethos is the promotion of our ‘every day’ 3 Core Values: Respect, Ambition and Responsibility, which underpin everything we do on a daily basis.

1.  Respect

We are well behaved and considerate to all staff and students in our learning community.

2.  Ambition

We are hardworking and have an ambitious attitude to succeed and achieve.

3.  Responsibility

We take ownership and act with integrity; we always do the right thing.

We want to expand our family of committed and skilled people, who will directly benefit the future of the next generation. If you wish to discuss any of the opportunities we have on offer, please contact us at jharrison@edu.moorend.org or call 01484 222230.

We look forward to hearing from you.
