TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS

for September 2019

Salary by negotiation and dependent on skills, attributes and qualifications of the successful candidate.

An excellent teacher is required for this core and highly successful faculty consisting of eight specialists who share a wide range of experience and expertise.  The faculty has a commitment to innovation and is exceptional in its use of technology in the classroom. Interest towards the subject amongst students is very high and there is a large and increasing number of pupils opting for Further Maths at A level.

This opportunity is for an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate who is capable of teaching Maths and Further Maths to A Level and beyond.  We are looking for a teacher with imagination, commitment and ambition to challenge students to enjoy Maths, and who has the insight and enthusiasm to convey the intricacies of this subject in an engaging and adventurous way. There is also an opportunity to take a further responsibility within the Maths Faculty for the right candidate.

With an excellent honours degree in Mathematics or a Maths-related subject, you should be accustomed to, or capable of, guiding students of the highest ability.  You should be familiar with IT and its use as a tool for learning, teaching and administration and be prepared to develop your skills further.

Maths is a core subject to the end of Year 11 with five sets of Year 11 preparing for the Mathematics International GCSE. The highest set is also entered for Additional Mathematics FSMQ.  In the Sixth Form Mathematics is the most popular A level with two sets in each of Years 12 and 13 taking Maths A Level and two additional sets studying the Further Maths A level. Maths was highly rated by parents and pupils in a recent survey of performance, and examination results are both good in absolute terms and show significant value added. Large numbers are successful in the individual and team UKMT challenges with a number of students qualifying for the Olympiad rounds and the senior team reaching the national finals many times.

Teaching takes place in six dedicated, well-equipped classrooms. All teaching rooms are equipped with permanent internet access and interactive whiteboards and all teaching staff and pupils in Years 7-11  have their own iPads. Responding to the needs of the individual student – be it preparing for examinations in after-school classes or guiding the most able through Oxbridge problems – is at the heart of the faculty’s ethos.

Teachers at Ashford enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and well-resourced environment and are provided with assistance from a range of support staff.  All teachers act as tutors and are expected to contribute to the co-curricular life of the School.  Single person accommodation may be available in return for boarding duties.

Deadline for applications: Noon on Monday 18 March 2019

Interviews: Week commencing 18 March
