Job overview

Would you like to work for an innovative school with highly engaged pupils that prioritises continuing professional development and career progression?

We seek to appoint a first-rate Teacher of Mathematics to join an exceptionally successful and supportive department, to teach the Department’s curriculum across the full age and ability range. The successful candidate will be a conscientious, dedicated team-player who has excellent subject knowledge and a passion for Mathematics, with the ability to enthuse students.

Mathematics is always one of the most popular subjects at A-level and we currently have five Single Maths groups and two Further Maths groups in each of the Sixth Form years.

The Department aims to promote the enjoyment and appreciation of Mathematics beyond the curriculum; this is at the heart of its philosophy. We have a large entry every year to all levels of the UKMT Maths Challenges with many gaining gold certificates and progressing to the higher rounds. There is a school team in the London-based Hans Woyda Competition and students regularly attend the Maths in Action lectures. We also have a programme of guest speakers at Forest such as Marcus du Sautoy, Matt Parker, Alex Bellos and Kjartan Poskitt of Murderous Maths fame.  As part of our partnership with local schools we also host other students in our Additional Maths programme for Year 11.

Results are excellent within the department. Over the last three years, 74% of students at Key Stage 4 have achieved A*/A or 9/8/7.  36% of the 2018 cohort achieved a grade 9, and 61% achieved a grade 8/9. At A-level in 2018, our students achieved a 51% A*/A rate in Mathematics and 88% in Further Maths. Three students have secured offers to read Mathematics at Cambridge in the past few years.

About Forest

Forest School is an independent school for boys and girls aged 4-18yrs established in 1834; benefiting from a tremendous location on the edge of North-East London. London’s only diamond structure school, Forest combines both single-sex and co-educational teaching on a single site as pupils move up the school. Our 1,395 boys and girls are taught together until the age of seven, separately from seven to 16, before coming back together again in a joint Sixth Form. This diamond structure offers all the academic benefits of single-sex teaching with all the social benefits of a co-educational school. The best of both worlds.

The Forest School Ethos

Forest is a humane, open-minded school with both feet on the ground, in which the pupils’ all-round personal development is outstanding and academic attainment is high.  It is, above all, a happy school which understands the rich inter-relationship between the curricular, the co-curricular and the pastoral.  There is boldness in the School’s character, a readiness to be forward-thinking and adaptable, with pride in what we are and excitement for what lies ahead.
