Job overview

The Mathematics Department at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, is staffed by teachers with a variety of Degrees ranging from Maths and Engineering to Business Studies. This variety of academic backgrounds is a key strength of the Department and we welcome applications from teachers who have a Mathematical or Technical Degree. Departmental staff are expected to combine experience with innovation, enthusiasm and dynamism when planning and delivering their lessons. Examination results are excellent with 50.8% achieving Grade 9 and 94.5% achieving Grades 9-7 in 2018. The two top sets in Year 11 take one of two freestanding Mathematics qualifications.

At A level, Mathematics is extremely popular. Over 75% of 6th Form students study the subject and results are outstanding with 63% achieving A*/A and 80% achieving A* to B in 2018. Over 40 students in Years 12 and 13 study Further Mathematics. The Mathematics Department has regular meetings and each member of staff has responsibility for setting and monitoring internal examinations for a particular year group. We also appoint Year 13 Mathematics prefects who are used to support younger pupils during lunchtimes.

The successful applicant will be remunerated at a level representing their qualifications, skills and experience.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is an academy school based in Altrincham, Cheshire for boys aged 11-18.

The school was founded in 1912. Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is a multi-ethnic seven-form entry 11-18 selective Academy School. It caters for boys who have been selected for a grammar school education from a wide area of South Manchester and North Cheshire. The academic results are outstanding and they place the School in the top 20 maintained schools in the country. Our GCSE results are strong in respect of 9/8 grades and our ‘A’ level results in respect of A*/A/B grades. The 2022 Ofsted Report graded the School as ‘Outstanding in all area’.
