Job overview

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 30 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 13 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Beeslack High School is a non-denominational secondary which serves the communities extending from the north of Penicuik towards Loanhead and is the secondary school associated with Glencorse, Mauricewood and Roslin Primary schools.

The school, which was founded in 1984, is situated in the beautiful grounds of a spacious 17.5 acre site, formerly part of the estate of Beeslack House, and is a highly attractive and inspiring setting for young people to learn and develop. Each session we get a high number of placing requests from pupils outwith our catchment.

We provide secondary education for young people aged 11-18 years where effective partnership working has been a key element of the drive to improve outcomes for young people. Beeslack also provides an excellent resource for the local community through its long-established and highly valued community education programme.

Beeslack Community High School offers pupils a range of opportunities to develop their skills for learning, life and work both through the curriculum and our extensive range of extra-curricular activities. In S1 -3 pupils follow a broad general education in 8 curricular areas. In the senior phase pupils have the opportunity to study for a range of qualifications at N3,4,5, Higher and Advanced Higher level with approx 47% of S6 pupils progressing their studies at college or university. Following a review of our Curriculum we are embarking on a very exciting journey in extending the learning opportunities for our young people in school, Midlothian and beyond.

At Beeslack Community High School we set high expectations for all of our pupils and work well with partner agencies to support our young people. We have high expectations for all of our pupils and want them to have aspirations, ambitions and be open minded for their journey beyond school.

We are an inclusive school that values all of its pupil’s contributions. Particular strengths of the school are the relationships between pupils, parents and staff and the attainment and achievements of our young people.

The teaching complement comprises 54 fte class teachers and 8 learning assistants. The Head Teacher, 3 Depute Headteachers and 12 Principal Teachers ( 7 Curriculum and 5 Guidance and Support for Learning) form the Management Team.

Are you looking to be part of an exceptional team of teachers who are invested in all young people and in our journey to self-improvement? Applications are invited from dynamic and enthusiastic professionals who have the vision and energy to sustain and promote the current standards of achievement and ensure the continued development and progress of the school.
