St. Joseph's RC High School

We are an English Medium, Catholic Voluntary Aided School for girls and boys aged 11-18 years in the Archdiocese of Cardiff. It was established to provide secondary education for the Catholic population of Newport, Caldicot and Chepstow. Since then it has flourished with 1371 students on roll (including 219 students in the Sixth Form).

The school is sited in a building completed in September 2004, that incorporates many exciting features including interactive technology being available in all classrooms, purpose-built suites for Science, Technology, ICT, Drama, Art and Music as well as a well resourced library, Sixth Form study area and a Sixth Form social area.

Our school has a sustained record of excellent performances in examinations. This outstanding achievement has been recognised by Welsh Government in our Estyn Report (January 2013). The report summary states the following for our current performance: "St. Joseph's Roman Catholic High School is excellent because: * the standards achieved by pupils are consistently very high and well above expectations;

* pupils, including boys, the more able and those with additional learning needs, make very good progress;

* attendance is exceptional;

* learning experiences are extensive and meet the needs of pupils well;

* teaching and assessment are of consistently high quality;

* the arrangements for care support and guidance are very well co-ordinated and highly effective; and

* the ethos of care and service to others is very strong."

We have excellent relationships with our seven Catholic primary Schools and with Newport Local Education Authority.

The school has achieved the Investors in People Standard. St Joseph's places great emphasis on the whole development of every child. This development is firmly based on Gospel values. Every child is valued as a unique individual, precious to God. The curriculum is wide and provides opportunities for your child to make the most of his or her God-given abilities. We do our best to ensure that every one of our children, whatever their strengths or weaknesses, feels cared for and challenged. We aim to make learning and teaching as interesting as possible. Our pupils are given strategies to enable them to become more effective learners.

We want our pupils to develop a love of learning and become life long learners.

The range of extra-curricular opportunities in sport, drama and music, enables everyone to develop their interests and talents.
