Job overview

We are looking to recruit two Teachers to engage and enthuse learners through a commitment to outstanding standards. As a Teacher of Mathematics you will be expected to ensure, through effective Teaching and Learning, that all pupils are equipped to use and apply mathematics in other areas of the curriculum as well as within the subject itself.

We're looking for someone who

  • is passionate about mathematics and about helping all pupils succeed despite their background;
  • has high professional standards;
  • is committed to raising the achievement of all learners by ensuring teaching across the curriculum is of the highest quality;
  • is able to make positive relationships with staff, pupils and parents alike;
  • is able to plan and deliver innovative and inspirational lessons that engage pupils;
  • has experience in working with Key Stage 3 pupils.

About Us

We are making substantial improvements in all areas and are investing heavily in our staffing structure to continue this momentum. We are a supportive team, committed to ensuring that our learners fulfil their potential despite any barriers they may face.

Located on the outskirts of Northampton, we are situated in a great part of the country - Northampton has a £20billion economy and sits at the heart of one of four designated growth areas in England, with big plans for housing and the economy. With plenty of countryside on the doorstep, it’s surprising that we're only an hour away from London.

In Return

Working for the GAT you can be assured that you will be contributing to helping support our mission to enable every child to do their best. All our academies work collaboratively together to share best practice and are supported by the expertise within the central team to enable them to focus on teaching and learning. As a GAT employee, you will receive excellent opportunities for career progression and access to bespoke CPD from the Learning Alliance to enhance your professional growth.

Introduction

Weston Favell Academy is a friendly and supportive environment which is absolutely dedicated to improving the lives of our young people – we want all of our students, and staff, to be the best that they can be. As a member of staff here, you will be joining a dynamic and diverse team that works hard to ensure that all of our students are able to make progress while in our care. Weston Favell is at an exciting stage of its development.  Our progress towards outstanding is clear and we need to continue to grow a strong and committed staff team that is entirely focussed on providing an outstanding education for our young people.

Background

The Weston Favell Academy is located in the eastern district of Northampton. It is an 11-19 academy with capacity for 1650 pupils, of which 300 will be in the sixth form.

The academy serves a local area which is socially mixed but is close to national averages in most respects. The majority of pupils come from homes defined as ‘white British’; the relatively small proportions of pupils from different ethnic backgrounds are well integrated.

Context

Since joining the Greenwood Academies Trust in 2012, we have been on a journey of improvement. The culture and ethos of the academy has been transformed – students now demonstrate a positive attitude to learning and are keen to do well. They respond well to their teachers and are keen to engage in learning and an ever increasing range of extra-curricular activities. The academy is predicting improved progress and attainment as the changes in teaching, learning and leadership become embedded.

Team Culture

There is a clear team spirit at Weston Favell and new members of staff would be joining a strong and supportive group of professionals. There are multiple opportunities to work collaboratively to ensure that we are all continuing to improve our practice.

In September 2016, the Trust launched a new Learning Alliance which supports the development of all staff across the Trust. The Learning Alliance encourages collaboration, reflection and active learning amongst professionals which has a positive impact on the experience and outcomes of our learners across the Trust.

Facilities

The Academy occupies a large, split-level site with extensive sports facilities, including a swimming pool and green spaces. There was a recent major PFI building project which has delivered impressive accommodation to support learning across the curriculum.

Local Information

This means that the county is perfect for commuting or relocating. Northamptonshire offers the chance to escape a big city without the compromise of giving up the city lifestyle completely.

Part of the Milton Keynes and South Midlands Growth area, one of four designated Growth Areas in England, Northamptonshire will benefit from 37,000 new homes by 2021. So whether you want to live in a brand new state-of-the-art apartment or in a barn conversion in a rural village setting, Northamptonshire can offer it all.

Voted in the top 33 per cent of England's happiest places to live according to Rightmove, Northamptonshire offers affordable housing and is one of the UK’s fastest growing counties, which means it is highly favoured by those wanting to strike a good balance between living and making a living.
