Job overview

Teacher of Mathematics: KS3, KS4, KS5

The Scandinavian School is a non-profit-making association dedicated to teaching each individual student through Swedish pedagogy. Classes are small and students are taught at their level. The school has offered Primary education in English since 2005 and began a Secondary programme in 2013.

The Secondary school has continued to grow and as a result, we seek to employ an outstanding Teacher of Mathematics. As the school grows, the team will increase and the successful candidate will be integral in helping build the department and move towards IGCSE provision and A-levels.

This small, dynamic school has undergone extensive development programme in recent years. We have been awarded full accreditation by both the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). We are authorised by the National Association of Spanish schools in Spain (NABSS) as a British school in Spain. We follow the International Cambridge programme (Secondary 1 and 2).

The ideal candidate should be

  • highly self-motivated and an excellent classroom practitioner
  • experienced in teaching KS4 and KS5
  • enthusiastic, energetic, committed to students of all abilities and responsive to their needs
  • able to exercise professional leadership to ensure high quality teaching skills
  • able to work as a member of  a close-knit, supportive team
  • in possession of good organisational and interpersonal skills

All applicants must a have a teaching qualification that is recognised in UK schools (such as a PGCE) and recent experience from a UK school or an overseas school following the International Cambridge programme. All candidates must be eligible to live and work in Spain. Teaching experience from a Scandinavian school is an advantage.

Please send your application to Peter Shearer, Head of the International Section (peter.shearer@escandinavo.com) and Head of School Jenny Dettmann (jenny.dettmann@escandinavo.com) no later than 15 May but preferably earlier.

Scandinavian School is a mixed, non-denominational all-through school with sixth form situated in the La Moraleja region of Madrid, Spain. It educates a total of approximately 280 children between the ages of 2-19 years old, across its preschool, primary and secondary sections. There are around 15 different nationalities represented and 40% of students being dual nationality. The school is an accredited University of Cambridge International Examination Centre offering the Cambridge Primary programme in the school’s English section, but education is still inspired by many sections of the values and academic beliefs of the Swedish curriculum. Scandinavian School is also a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) and an accredited international school by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

The school was founded in 1944 to deliver a Swedish education in a Spanish environment. It changed to its current La Moraleja premises in 1973 and changed to its current name in 1982. In 2005, its English and Spanish bilingual preschool was opened.
