Job overview

Peter Symonds is located in Winchester. It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. Our unofficial College motto has long been ‘Counting in Ones’ and we work hard to make this a supportive and friendly place to study, with every student treated as an individual. Not only is this at the heart of our work with our students, but we also strive to support and value our staff in the same way.

We have a permanent vacancy for a Teacher of Maths to join our thriving Maths department which has a dedicated staff of nearly thirty teachers, including a Deputy and subject leaders to support the Head of Subject. As well as A level Maths, the team teaches Further Maths and GCSE, achieving very high success rates.

You will be a graduate of Maths or of a closely allied subject, familiar with contemporary issues in the teaching of Maths and able to share your enthusiasm for the subject with your students. You will be a reflective teacher, committed to excellence in teaching and learning. A strong team player, you will be keen to make your contribution to the further development of the department. We welcome applications from both newly qualified and experienced teachers.

We would also advise you that posts advertised to start in September 2018 actually commence with student enrolment on Tuesday 28 August 2018. Teaching staff are required to work this week but should you have an existing commitment please make this clear on your application and we will honour it.

Closing date:  Monday 19 March 2018 at 12 noon

Values and vision

'Counting in Ones' is our motto and is the key principle which guides everything we do. Value added is good and the large majority of our students progress to higher education, many to Russell Group universities. A large number of our students each year, usually around fifty, are able to secure places at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Pastoral support is well resourced and students also benefit from an unusual range of music, sporting and other enrichment opportunities.
