Christ’s College Finchley is a non-selective, coeducational secondary school for students aged 11-18. It is a mainstream state academy situated in East Finchley, North London. There are nearly 1,000 pupils on its roll.

The school dates back to 1857. It was founded by the Very Reverend TR White, who opened it as a private boarding school called Chapel Hall School. In 1991, the school became a comprehensive when it moved to its current site on East End Road.

Values and vision

Christ’s College Finchley aims to make pupils feel good about themselves. As a result, the children are happy and there has been good retention of school staff over the decades. Pupils are expected to behave well, so bullying and aggression are rare.

Since 1906, the secondary school’s motto has been “Usque Proficiens”, meaning “advance all the way”. The school is proud that visitors consistently comment on the friendly and happy atmosphere, and that prospective teachers often remark that they feel "at home" within minutes of their arrival.

Ofsted report

“The headteacher has very high ambitions for the pupils and a relentless determination to provide them with the highest quality of education. Since joining the school, he has created a culture of high expectations and established a learning environment where pupils thrive. Pupils mix well, are courteous and are polite towards each other and staff. They enthusiastically participate in extra-curricular activities and are proud of their school.”
