The Royal School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Mathematics teacher to join a key department in our heavily oversubscribed day and boarding free school. The aptitude and willingness to teach a range of abilities from ages 11-18 is essential. Ability to teach A-Level is desirable but not essential, experience of Core Maths at key stage 5 is highly desirable as well as proficiency of delivering & implementing Mastery Mathematics at key stage 3 is also desirable. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and aspirational NQTs.
The mathematics department is at an important stage in securing the highest standards of learning and teaching for children in the school community. The department has a central suite of rooms all equipped with Clevertouch interactive monitors, as well as access to a class set of Chromebook’s, with the department keen to enhance its use of IT at all levels. The school has entered a significant building programme where all areas of this well-established school will be brought up to the very highest standards over the next 2 years. The department is eager to improve the standards and ‘passion’ of mathematics for all students and aims to develop mathematical reasoning and problem solving whilst still developing the fundamental skills students need. All year groups are set by ability and regular pupil tracking assists with such decisions. We currently teach GCSE from year 9, spreading the demands of the new specification over three years, offering the best opportunity for students to fully master all topics. Mathematics is a very popular subject at A-Level. At present, there are 6 groups including 2 further mathematics groups and with the increasing numbers to the school, the mathematics team want to build on the positive exam success of previous years.
Are you the person to stretch, challenge, support and inspire our students in and outside of the classroom?
The school’s distinctive ethos and culture where a truly holistic view of the personal development of the child is central to all that we do. The wider ‘enrichment’ programme at this all-through 4-19 boarding and day school is essential and helps develop confident pupils well equipped for life beyond the school. All staff contribute to this extensive programme with their personal interests and to join in with existing activities.
The Royal School is at an exciting time of development. The new free school is an all-through (Reception to Y13) ‘independent’ school without day fees, whilst still providing excellent boarding at affordable fees. Alongside the growth in pupil numbers, there will be an expansion in the curriculum, enrichment activities and vastly improved facilities, enabling us to extend and enhance still further the range of opportunities for all our young people and our staff.
As a result of The Royal School’s excellent CPD programme and the supportive Science team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to: develop professionally; improve and extend their knowledge; develop skills and experience; share outstanding and innovative practice; and contribute to the development of an exciting, challenging and supportive learning environment in and outside of the classroom
The Royal School has achieved excellent academic results throughout its history and has an outstanding reputation for nurturing and developing confident, well-disciplined and successful individuals who progress successfully to the next stage of their life and career. We relish this next phase in its existence which enables us to review and build on our current success in preparing our young people for a rapidly evolving world. We hope that you will share in this passion for a broader educational opportunity.
