Job overview

NQT’s welcomed

Greenwood Academy is a successful (Ofsted grade of Good in 2014) and popular 11-18 community school and we are proud to serve the Castle Vale community in Birmingham. Over the last 3 years we have made great strides in school improvement and we believe we are at an exciting stage of our development. Our students are at the heart of all that we do and we place great importance on not only making sure that they achieve academic success, but also in developing their character, resilience and determination.

In 2017 we will move into our new building in a new exciting location bordering an open landscape which will enhance our learning provision for our students, and the working environment for our talented and committed team. We are rapidly growing in size with our current year 7 over-subscribed and the sixth form has doubled its numbers over the last two years. We have a committed and ambitious team which includes colleagues from Future Leaders and Teach First, and have been very successful at developing teachers and leaders with progression both within and beyond the academy.

As our new Teacher of Maths you will join a school where all colleagues play their part and contribute to whole school improvement through our distributed leadership model. If you embody these values and have high expectations, you will be very successful working with us.

Our Maths department is seen within the Academy as a ‘stable, strong and inspiring team’ and benefits from having a range of experienced and recently qualified teachers. We actively encourage applications from newly qualified teachers, as well as from experienced colleagues.

We are looking for a Teacher of Maths who really cares about helping our students succeed and is willing to support the development of the Maths faculty.

You will be joining a department who:

  • Put students first - We aim to inspire all our learners through innovative teaching
  • Supports CPD and career development - We support and challenge each other’s teaching through frequent CPD, coaching and mentoring for all new staff
  • Enjoy trust wide benefits - We benefit from regular collaboration with experts from our academy trust to ensure we stay ‘ahead of the game’.
  • Value team spirit and positive working relationships - We support each other through team-teaching and collaborative planning, fostering a positive working environment.

We are looking for a Maths Teacher who:

  • Is passionate about Maths and has a creative and flexible approach to teaching both at KS3 and KS4 and KS5.
  • Will model best practice teaching and learning across the department and support the development of quality teaching in the department.
  • Will support, challenge and engage a diverse cohort of students, enriching their learning experience, maximising their potential and raising attainment
  • Will play a key role in leading aspects of faculty CPD.

You will have:

  • Access to the country’s leading Maths mastery curriculum and assessment materials
  • Have access to outstanding training, both regionally and nationally
  • An opportunity to join a fantastic Maths forum, sharing ideas with schools all over the country

About Greenwood Academy

**Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view our live vacancies**

Greenwood Academy is a vibrant, successful 11-18 Academy situated in the heart of Castle Vale.  We moved into our £20 million new build in September 2017 with world class facilities.  Coupled with this is a highly professional staff and students who are keen to learn.  As a result of being oversubscribed, we are embarking on the next wave of recruitment for the highest calibre of staff who can help us to grow our school community.

So why work at Greenwood Academy?

1. Teaching and Learning

Quality first teaching is at the core of everything we do. To support this, our evidence-based Teaching and Learning vision incorporates Barack Rosenshine’s Principles of Direct Instruction.  Literacy is a significant part of every lesson. Standard written and Spoken English is insisted upon and modelled by all teachers to ensure our students can achieve their potential.

Most importantly, we do not grade observations at Greenwood Academy, we believe that regular, developmental feedback creates a strong, supportive and vibrant culture.

2. Expectations

We have a firm and fair approach to behaviour, systematically supported by senior staff; all pupil detentions are centralised and run by senior staff every day. Teachers are therefore able to prioritise the planning and teaching of their subject.

3. Work-life balance

We are committed to reducing teacher workload and making sure that everything we do has a positive impact on pupil learning. This means we have a slimmed-down marking policy, a centralised knowledge focused homework policy, no parents evenings and a minimal assessment, reporting and data entry cycle.

Ofsted

We are judged to be a 'Good' school and we were last inspected in October 2021. To view all our Ofsted reports please see the link here
