We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed teacher of mathematics to join a dedicated, collaborative and high-performing team with a keen focus on securing progress for every student. Applications are welcome from experienced and newly qualified teachers able to teach throughout the age and ability range. The school offers an excellent induction for NQTs and would be able to support you through your first year.
The Mathematics Curriculum Area is among the strongest in our school. GCSE exam results have remained consistently above 60% A*-C since 2013, and reached a new high at 71% 9-4 grades in 2017. These are exciting times at Alec Hunter, since our recent Ofsted inspection, in July 2017, graded the school as ‘good’ for the first time in its history, with the report noting that “School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid”. The report also highlighted that “Examples of (the) positive learning culture were seen during the inspection particularly, though not exclusively in mathematics, art and textiles lessons.”
Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. In addition, we are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5. The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks, including two teaching school alliances.
