Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Maths to join a well-led, collaborative and high-performing team with a keen focus on securing progress for every student.  Applications are welcome from experienced and newly-qualified teachers able to teach throughout the age and ability range. The school offers an excellent induction for NQTs and would be able to support you through your first year.

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community.  Ofsted graded the school as ‘good’ for the first time in its history in July 2017, with the report noting that “School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid”.  The Mathematics Curriculum Area is among the strongest in our school.  GCSE exam results have remained consistently above 60% A*-C since 2013 and reached a new high at 71% 9-4 grades in 2017, a figure we are aiming to surpass this year.

The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust.  Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks, including two teaching school alliances.  We are also full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.  A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post.  If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
