Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join St Sampson's High School, to be part of an exciting period of change in secondary education and enjoy an exceptional future on a beautiful island.

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified specialist graduate teacher with the vision to deliver high standards of teaching and learning throughout Key Stages 3 and 4 in Maths.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements with innovative ideas to build on existing good practice. Furthermore, we will look to you to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the school and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools. We welcome applications from newly qualified teachers.

About the Education Service

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney work in a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education.

The drivers in secondary phase education for this collaborative approach are quality of educational experience and outcomes, equality of opportunity and access, and efficient and effective use of resources.

Employed by the States of Guernsey and based at St Sampson's High School, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across Key Stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that you will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

Benefits

Guernsey is a remarkable place in which to work. We can offer you not only a challenging and rewarding career as part of a well-resourced department which has a suite of specialist rooms, but a healthy work-life balance and outdoor pursuits in abundance.

This post carries an eight-year employment permit. If appointed, you can also expect to:

  • Benefit from the stunning scenery and enviable quality of life;
  • Work in a well-resourced school with favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of Maths in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;

Values and vision

St Sampson's High School aims to help motivate students by raising their expectations. Students are often encouraged to work effectively with each other in  small group collaborative tasks and to be respectful of each other’s views and contributions. The school aims for students to make a significant contribution to their wider community through, for example, participation in sponsored events to raise school funds, support for local senior citizens’ care homes, raising funds for international disaster relief efforts and through acting as buddies and mentors for their junior peers. Importance is also placed on providing a broad range of activities and experiences planned beyond the classroom which enrich pupils’ learning. This is why the school prides itself on having strong links with local sports clubs in rugby, cricket, athletics and football with competitive school fixtures across a number of sports for both girls and boys at all stages. The school also looks to extend pupils’ experiences beyond the school through off-site visits to other facilities and centres within Guernsey (such as Footes Lane for athletics) and international visits beyond Guernsey (such as to France and Italy).
