Job overview

Kirkby College joined the Outwood Family of Schools at the beginning of September 2022, therefore successful candidates will be joining a highly innovative, inspirational and successful organisation.

The academy seeks applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.

You will be well supported by an experienced team as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging curriculum experience that focuses on teaching for understanding. The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through our own network of teaching schools.

Located in the town of Kirkby in Ashfield, the academy is about to embark on an exciting journey which will include a full school rebuild in the next 2 years. The commitment to make a difference for the children of Outwood Academy Kirkby is what drives us. If this drives you too this could be the role you seek where your efforts will make a significant difference. We believe that children never achieve their full potential if their time at school is wasted, and consequently we expect our staff to bring out the best in each and every student. Our diverse curriculum has something for everyone, with extra guidance for those requiring additional support, and we do whatever it takes to help young people develop a sense of responsibility – towards themselves, each other, their community and the wider world. If you share our worldview and want to make a real difference to the lives of young people in Kirkby in Ashfield, you can join us in transforming futures.

Outwood Academy Kirkby in conjunction with Outwood Grange Academies Trust will place students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment.

If you are interested or have any further questions regarding this role, we invite you to Stacey Atkins by email: s.atkins@outwood.com. We also recommend you visit the academy where you will be very welcome.

We are a 11-16 academy based in the market town of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, on the eastern edge of the Erewash Valley which separates Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. We became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2022 and are yet to be inspected by Ofsted.

We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. With a holistic view of education, we aim to create a safe and secure learning community that encourages healthy and sustainable lifestyles and empowers students to pursue career pathways they will find stimulating and deeply rewarding.

As we continue to improve and progress, help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.
