Are you passionate about Maths?

If so, this is the school for you!

The Role

Here at the QKA Maths department our vision is: ‘For our students we seek to be the best.’

It is with our vision in mind and our culture of success, positivity and belonging that we are looking to appoint a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic teacher to join our established and flourishing maths department.

Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and by constantly seeking to be the best, we are confident that we are making a difference to student’s lives, through the opportunities we are giving them in our lessons. We want our students to leave this academy remembering their maths lessons.

Our department is well resourced and led by committed practitioners, who are focussed on continuing the process of raising standards and expectations in our department and beyond. The last two years have seen a pleasing increase in our GCSE grades and standards with huge gains in progress and attainment. Our students achieving the top grades in GCSE maths has tripled compared to the previous exam season, and the progress made by students improved significantly this year.

We have begun to embed our improved success at KS4 in KS3. This year we have implemented a new KS3 curriculum, in order to ensure that our students are more prepared for the rigorous demands of the current GCSE; particularly with regard to problem solving and reasoning.

With our progress and attainment improving, we are looking to maintain this accelerated progress with a new addition to our department.

We want our department to expand; and are aiming to increase our sixth form numbers for A-level and AS-Level Maths, and have introduced Core Maths to our curriculum for KS5 from September 2020. At GCSE we hope to introduce GCSE Statistics as an option, to provide more opportunities for our more able maths students.

It is truly exciting times for our department and we are looking to welcome another colleague to join this highly driven and successful department, who will buy into our vision and culture.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a school within one of the well-regarded Trusts in the eastern region. The school has a great history of success and a bright and exciting future and we are looking for an ambitious and dynamic teacher to steer it through the next stage of its development. Collaboration, educational research and professional development are at the core of how the schools within Thomas Deacon Education Trust work together.

With a clear focus on teaching at all levels, the Trust is well placed to provide great opportunities to promote Thomas Deacon Academy as a leading school and you will be given effective support to develop you personally as an outstanding teacher.

The Trust offers:

·       Excellent salary package.

·       Fantastic training/CPD opportunities in a friendly supportive environment.

·       Opportunity for progression across Thomas Deacon Education Trust.

·       Use of Academy facilities (including a gym and onsite car parking).

·       Teachers’ pension scheme.

·       An engaging, creative and welcoming environment to learners who take pride in their school.

·       An inclusive and collaborative approach.

·       A talented, highly motivated, committed and professional team of colleagues, both within the school and across the trust.

·       An actively supportive Local Governing Body and Trust leadership.

Thomas Deacon Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The Academy will require the successful candidate to provide satisfactory references and undertake an Enhanced Check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Queen Katharine Academy is a member of the Peterborough based Thomas Deacon Education Trust and opened in September 2017 having emerged from its predecessor school, The Voyager Academy.  The name change signified a deep desire to be associated with its local community and to align itself with the admirable the Academy building values of Katharine of Aragon who is buried in the city’s cathedral.

Whilst a building does not make a school, it is worth noting that the Academy building is a purpose built, modern facility, providing a range of impressive classrooms and multi-use communal spaces with expansive playing fields and sporting facilities.  The Academy is a larger than average 11-19 school in north Peterborough with approximately 1100 students on roll – 300 in the sixth form. We are acutely aware that the key purpose of the Academy is to put students first and everything we do must reflect that aim. Our vision is: “To be an inclusive centre of educational excellence.”

We seek to ensure that students receive a broad and balanced education that enables them to achieve their potential and take the appropriate next steps in their lives as valued and confident members of society. We have high expectations of our students in all that they do and this is underpinned by a set of guiding principles focussed around the key concept of respect, ensuring that our Academy is a purposeful, calm and safe place to learn. Similarly, we have high expectations of ourselves and strive to provide high quality support and guidance alongside stimulating and engaging learning experiences.

We are very much committed to working with parents and carers and firmly believe that effective, long-lasting partnerships are crucial in supporting our students to be the best that they can be.

Through high standards in teaching and pastoral care and the many opportunities provided both within the formal curriculum and beyond, our students are prepared for entrance to higher education, high quality employment and the future careers of their choice. Visitors to the Academy often comment on the calm purposeful learning environment which our staff and students create and enjoy. We are committed to providing an excellent education which allows every young person to achieve the best possible set of qualifications.

Equally, we value the importance of developing young people who are positive, confident, self-reflective citizens, fully equipped to take their place in the world. We offer students a range of exciting leadership roles and all learners are encouraged to participate in our excellent enrichment programme, which includes a very successful Combined Cadet Force, a flourishing Duke of Edinburgh programme and extensive extra-curricular opportunities in the sports and arts.
