Job overview

About the role:  Strood Academy have an exciting opportunity to appoint a talented Teacher of Maths to join us for September 2018.  Our Maths department is highly successful, comprised of 15 staff offering a wealth of knowledge and broad skill-set between them. With responsibility for teaching across all three key stages across the academy (dependent on experience and subject knowledge), our successful practitioner will be joining a committed team of experienced, newly qualified and trainee teachers and also be in receipt of incredibly strong and positive leadership of the faculty.  We deem this to be a fantastic role and one that will enable you to work within the wider Trust and collaborate with teaching professionals in a variety of our academies.

We can offer the opportunity to join a school that offers significant support for staff internally, and also benefit from support from the wider Trust on the new curriculum and raising standards.  We are currently at an exciting time as the rapid improvements that we are making are gaining momentum. As a result of SLT’s focus on improving Teaching & Learning, strong signs of sustainable improvement have already been achieved. Our successful candidate’s input is essential to ensuring this trend continues.

The responsibilities of this role are in line with the National Teaching Standards.

Due to the time restraints at this time of year, we will be interviewing on a rolling basis which may be held before the closing date - we therefore encourage early applications.  Once an appointment is made, the advert will be closed.  If you would like clarification on the vacancy, please contact the Talent Team on 01634 412 240 / talent@latrust.org.uk

Working for Strood Academy:  Since opening in 2009, our academy has transformed the educational opportunities and outcomes for girls and boys in Strood. The improvement in academic performance has been driven by a talented and committed workforce, the hard work of our students, and support from parents and our community.  Our new buildings in Carnation Road were designed in partnership with Nicholas Hare and built by BAM as our main contractor at a cost of £26m. They opened in September 2012 and have outstanding learning environments and outside play areas as well as fantastic sports facilities. The buildings reflect our education vision of creating a mature and purposeful educational environment where children of all abilities can learn and thrive.

Our core values are creativity, collaboration, distinctiveness, respect and sustainability which are embedded and evident in all of our activities.  We have a growing roll call of 1400 children, including 200 in Sixth Form. Working in our Academy takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but for the right individuals it can be an incredibly rewarding experience and contribute significantly to personal and professional development.  Leigh Academies Trust invite those with the relevant expertise and ambition to join them in supporting a learning institution capable of preparing students for the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  Strood Academy joined Leigh Academies Trust in January 2017 and as part of this move, we are able to provide our employees in every remit with the opportunity to collaborate with peers and share best practice at academyleveland across the whole Trust - we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  Our staff-force are expected to undertake regular self-development to continue professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

As part of the 'cluster' structure, all of our academies are grouped together in key geographical area to enable them to be able to support each other and share resources.  It also offers staff access to career opportunities across the Trust allowing them to progress their career without switching employers.  For more information on working for the Trust please visit our careers pages.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.
