The Leigh Academy has a rare opportunity to appoint a Teacher of Media who will join us for the new academic year starting in September 2019. You’ll be joining a highly successful and collaborative team and will have a range of professional development opportunities available within the academy itself and also across the wider Trust. Our successful candidate will also be able to teach English.
Get to know our Media department;
- The exam boards we follow are GCSE Media (AQA) and BTEC Creative Media Production (Pearson)
- We teach Media across Key Stages 4 and 5; Year 9 is a foundation year with Year 10 and 11 encompassing a full delivery of GCSE content. At Key Stage 5 we offer BTEC Media.
- GCSE Media involves learning about the key main concept areas of the subject including representation, audience, institutions and language. Students are required to develop several case studies as part of preparation for two summer exams in Year 11 and devise a practical coursework piece.
- BTEC Media consists of two exam units and two internal assessments testing the students’ knowledge of pre-production, film production and print design.
Our Media and Film department offers students a wide range of learning experiences from individual work to group productions. The courses provide them with a chance to experience all of the skills they will need in the industry along with the opportunity to use technology creatively.
We have a degree of flexibility with the timetable and can offer this role on a full or part-time basis; the minimum requirement for part-time is 3 days per week (0.6fte).
