We believe strongly in comprehensive education and its ability to change lives. We believe that pupils have the right to attend a school where they can achieve success. 90% of our students go on to university study. We want pupils to feel enthused by the opportunities that await them, and proud to be part of a multi-cultural community. The School is an oversubscribed 11- 18 mixed gender, stand-alone Converter Academy. We currently have 1200 pupils on role including a thriving Sixth Form of over 300 students. Academic and extra-curricular activities ensure that pupils leave the School fully prepared to take their place in society.

We have very high expectations of all staff and for the right person this is a superb opportunity to develop teaching and leadership skills through bespoke CPD provision and opportunities for in house career progression. This includes a comprehensive induction programme for all new staff. You will be working in a modern, well resourced, supportive environment, which has superb facilities.

The post would offer excellent opportunities for a new entrant to the profession with the post holder teaching to GCSE, AS and A-Level.

Media Studies is a high profile department and maintains excellent examination results across all courses. The department are based in a purpose built Media suite consisting of three dedicated classrooms, a state of the art television studio and a brand new editing facility. A candidate with a strong knowledge of both the production and theoretical elements of the subject would be at a significant advantage. Media is a popular option, with the number of pupils studying the subject growing each year, The department offers a range of courses including Media Studies GCSE and Media Studies A-Level, as well as offering a vocational route in sixth form – OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 Digital Media Production. In addition, the department will be launching Film Studies A-Level in September 2017 – previous experience of delivering this qualification would be advantageous. In addition, the candidate must be both confident and competent in the planning, delivery and assessment of the subject, using contemporary, student centred strategies.

The Department is supportive and friendly with two teaching staff and a technician. Whilst the position is a maternity cover, the right candidate would have excellent opportunities for professional development which would make them an asset in any future Media teaching role.

About Chadwell Heath Academy

The School

We are a successful, all ability 11 to 18 six form entry co educational Academy. We have approximately 1230 pupils on roll, including a Sixth Form of around 300

We believe in the importance of supporting and encouraging all our students to succeed. It is our expectation that the majority of our pupils will complete their education in our Sixth Form.

To encourage achievement, effort grades and credit certificates are presented throughout the year for academic, artistic and social endeavour. Academic progress is monitored through a mentoring programme and regular assessment. All pupils are tested in formal end of year examinations.

Support teaching is an important feature of our approach to education. Pupils with learning difficulties are carefully assessed and given additional help in subject lessons.

There are many opportunities for pupils to develop their special interests and aptitudes, with many clubs connected to academic subjects as well as regular Music Concerts and Drama productions providing the opportunity not only to perform, but also to be involved 'backstage'.

Pupils have the opportunity to join teams in many different sports and participate in numerous inter school competitions.

We are very much part of the community and all Year groups become involved in charity work.

How the School is Organised
On entering our school, pupils are placed in one of six tutor groups under the pastoral care of a Form Tutor and Head of Year. They stay within this group to the end of Year 11 thereby ensuring that they have the continuity and stability necessary for success.

We seek to create an environment in which pupils feel that staff are available to listen to them, guide them and where necessary take action on their behalf. We find that this is best achieved by organising the School into three tiers, corresponding with each of the key stages. Each tier has a Head of School whose responsibility is to coordinate the work of the academic and pastoral teams to ensure that all our pupils achieve their very best.
