Spanish and French specialists
The Governors wish to appoint two enthusiastic, effective and well qualified teachers of MFL. We are looking for a one Spanish and one French specialist (each with a second language preferable) to join our highly successful Languages department.
The MFL department here at Cardinal Newman School is a thriving one. We teach Spanish, French and German plus Arabic, Italian and Latin. Uptake at GCSE and A Level is excellent and our GCSE results have been in the top 20% of the country for the past 3 years.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach across key stages 3 and 4. Potential is as important as experience and we would consider applications from recent graduates who are seeking an opportunity to work within a friendly, supportive and hardworking team.

About Cardinal Newman Catholic School
Cardinal Newman Catholic School, based in Hove and Brighton is a mixed gender, secondary school for children between the ages of 11 and 18. The East Sussex school is voluntary aided and its denomination is Roman Catholic. The school was originally a part of the Stanford estate and in 1970’s was rented out to Edward King who used the grounds as a market garden, making produce for the Brighton market. Nuns of the Sacred Heart order were granted permission by the Bishop to create the school. They began building work in 1870 and in 1901, a new wing was created. In 1966, the nuns left the premises.

The school aims to make sure every pupil feels at home and is cared for while on the premises. They follow the values of Christianity. Everything the school does, is done through its faith. It values excellence, with each child taking responsibility for their actions. Cardinal Newman also values togetherness. It wants teachers and students to build a bond with each other and with God. The motto of the school is “no one gets left behind”.

Leaders have had good impact on rates of attendance, which compare favourably with the rest of the school. Many post-16 learners exercise voluntary leadership roles in support of whole-school activities. Others serve as positive role models for younger pupils.”
