Job overview

Laurence Jackson School

Guisborough

(11-16 Comprehensive School)

 Teacher of MFL

Permanent – 0.6/0.8 (negotiable at interview) MPS/ UPS

To start September 2022 or earlier if possible.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, well-motivated Teacher of MFL to join our highly successful MFL Department. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach Spanish to GCSE level.  The ability to teach French at KS3 would be an advantage.

Laurence Jackson School is a popular 11-16 comprehensive school of 1220 students. Our intake is wide ranging by nature and we are proud of our very inclusive philosophy of ‘Inspiring Excellence’.

We are part of a dynamic and supportive MAT, the Vision Academy Learning Trust, which was established in 2016 and currently consists of three secondary schools, of which one is a teaching school, and five primary schools.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.  These posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Students at Laurence Jackson study either French or Spanish from Year 7 onwards.  Students achieve well in MFL at GCSE, with results that are often significantly higher than national averages for similar schools. The MFL department currently consists of four highly experienced and enthusiastic specialist MFL teachers.  We are a supportive department that invests in the development of staff, working collaboratively to develop our curriculum and skills in order to improve student outcomes.  We take pride in developing lessons that enthuse and engage our students so that students of all abilities are successful in their MFL studies.  This was recognised in our most recent OFSTED inspection where it was acknowledged that ‘teaching helps pupils to make good progress in modern foreign languages.’  We would welcome someone who is willing to share in this ethos in order to foster a love of MFL in our students.
