Job overview

Join us to make a difference in Suffolk.

The Seckford Foundation Free Schools Trust, was established by the Seckford Foundation in 2012 to help local communities in Suffolk set up and run free schools, at the request of those members of the community who wanted to improve aspirations and rates of progress for young people of secondary school age.

With the support of the Department for Education and the Seckford Foundation, the trust opened Beccles and Saxmundham Free Schools in September 2012, and Ixworth Free School in September 2014. All our schools are funded by the government and are non-selective; they are designed to provide an excellent, academically focused education for young people aged eleven to sixteen.

Our vision and ethos is therefore set up to achieve those overarching objectives.

We pride our schools as being a confident and happy place, where our students receive excellent pastoral care and support in a small school setting. Our staff members know each of their students as individuals. As all-inclusive schools, we celebrate the successes of all our students together as a community and we have aspirations that everyone will make progress above the national average.

We are seeking a talented MFL Teacher (specialising in French) to join our language departments at Saxmundham and Beccles Free Schools. MFL is taught from Year 7 through to GCSE; you will primarily be teaching KS3, but will also teach some KS4. You must be committed to raising the standard of our students by creative and engaging teaching.

We provide a happy and supportive work environment, with high expectations of staff and students, together with a competitive salary based on skills and experience.

You will have access to promotion opportunities and superb professional development across all our free schools.

Suffolk is a beautiful county, with access to London for the occasional night out or theatre trip. Very close to the coast, with countryside walks and excellent food and drink.

We reserve the right to appoint prior to the closing date.

Seckford Education Trust: History

The Seckford Education Trust was set up to help local communities start a small number of Free Schools in Suffolk.  The Trust was established by The Seckford Foundation, which is a long established charity dedicated to the education and welfare of young people and older people in Suffolk.

The Trust opened Beccles Free School and Saxmundham Free School in September 2012. Both schools are thriving and the number of students choosing to attend has increased strongly since then. In addition, we will be opening a further Free School in Ixworth in September 2014.

The Curriculum

This is focused on developing a wider love of learning for life around traditional subject areas; it is academic, broad and balanced. Special emphasis is given to developing the skills of literacy and numeracy in two ways. Firstly through enhanced curriculum time for English and Maths. Secondly, through the approach that literacy and numeracy are delivered through every curriculum subject. All the teachers at The Free Schools are teachers of literacy and numeracy.

Our vision is for all our students to:

• achieve their potential through a culture of high academic, personal and social expectations and aspirations;
• have their needs met and be recognised as individuals through high quality inclusion and pastoral care systems;
• learn in a safe, healthy and stimulating environment in which every child matters and in which parents/carers and the wider community are part of the learning journey;
• enjoy an all-round education beyond academic study, so that each can discover his or her latent talents.

We have aspirations and expectations for our students that they make above average progress and achieve to the very highest level in all that they do. We are inclusive and have that aim for all students relative to their starting points.

There are five underpinning elements to the delivery of our vision:

• An academic, broad and balanced curriculum (including creative subjects) based on the traditional subject areas that form the structure for delivering knowledge, skills and understanding;
• Inclusion - Personal Education Plans are provided for every student. Those who undertake teaching at our Free Schools cater for the needs of all students regardless of ability. High quality and regular training is provided to all staff to assist them with this underpinning element;
• A strong pastoral system is a key focus of the work of The Free Schools. Tutors are the main focus of the life of our students and the tutor forms the main contact with parents/carers. The tutor delivers PSHE and citizenship and tracks all elements of the progress of the students in their tutor group;
• Enrichment - this element of the school day provides a more rounded learning experience beyond the traditional and allows opportunities to further spark interests in students, discover their talents and develop a love of learning for life;
• Pathways provide progression into post-16 learning. Everything we do is geared to providing pathways for future learning and success.

The ethos of The Trust and our Free Schools is founded on the 6Cs to Success.
The 6Cs are: Co-operation, Commitment, Community, Challenge, Confidence and  Celebration
