Turriff Academy is a community which fosters Respect, Ambition and Achievement for all. Turriff Academy has a long history of upholding the values of honesty, hard work, fairness and ambition and it has a strong reputation as a school where pupils feel safe, secure, supported and included.

Our values of Respect, Ambition and Achievement are promoted throughout the school and as such we have been awarded The Rights Respecting School Award at Level 2.

We aim to develop our young people to be the best they can be in everything they do to enable them to make a positive contribution to the local, national and global community. We aim to ensure that all our pupils secure and sustain a positive destination beyond school.

Staff are encouraged to develop their learning and teaching and leadership skills through the use of Tapestry and SCEL programmes.

The Humanities Faculty at Turriff Academy is supportive and inclusive with a keen interest in fostering the development of new colleagues.

We have an “open door” policy which encourages discussion, and a team approach across the Faculty.

We aim to encourage the development of experienced staff in exploring new areas of responsibility and leadership opportunities and believe in a positive, communicative approach where colleagues are encouraged to support one another in terms of the delivery and development of the curriculum.

The Faculty has highly motivated staff with pupils’ best interests at the very core of their approach, is well-organised, structured and forward-thinking in its approach to the planning and development of new courses

We support co-operative, creative teaching methodologies and the educational opportunities for the young people studying in the Faculty are enhanced by a range of curricular field visits locally, nationally and throughout Europe.

HMIE

“Young people in the school are confident, friendly and well motivated. They are regularly active and independent in their learning. They often work in small groups, taking turns and respecting the views of others. In almost all classes, they use ICT well to develop their independence in learning. For example, in several departments they undertake research using the Internet to deepen their understanding of their studies. Across the school, staff and young people treat each other with equality, fairness and respect.”
