Teacher of Music

Robert Clack School is expanding in September 2020 with the opening of a third site and we are therefore looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Music to join our growing team.  

Robert Clack prides itself on delivering a challenging and engaging music curriculum.  We have excellent music facilities,  which give pupils the opportunity to study a variety of music and musical instruments,  and to learn how to compose and perform music in order to express themselves.  In Year 7 pupils are introduced to singing, using a keyboard and basic music technology.  In Years 8 & 9 pupils build on these skills by studying music from around the world, music in films, song writing, and they are introduced to the guitar and the ukulele .   At Key Stage 4, pupils have the option to study GCSE Music, in which they begin to learn about a wider range of musical styles.  Lessons are designed to integrate performing, composing and listening allowing pupils to develop an advanced understanding of diverse musical styles supported by a clear theoretical framework.  In Year 10 pupils complete their first coursework composition and solo performance.  In Year 11 they produce a second composition and record an ensemble performance.  The coursework performances and compositions account for 60%  of their final grade.   All GCSE Music pupils receive specialist tuition on their chosen instrument each week.   Pupils who consider continuing their Music studies at KS5 will further develop their skills in musical literacy and theory skills. 

We hold two music concerts each year (Christmas and summer), which showcase the musical talent of each year group, and our pupils perform throughout the year in assemblies and other school events.  We provide an excellent range of extra-curricular music clubs, during lunch times and after school, which include a school orchestra, boys' choir, girls' choir, ukulele, guitar club, keyboard club and a music production club. 

You must be passionate about teaching and you will be expected to collaborate with colleagues in the department in planning and delivering lessons across a range of ages and abilities.  You must be committed to delivering high quality teaching and learning, while securing outstanding progress for all pupils.  We are looking for an individual who has/is:-

• Qualified Teacher Status;

• Experience and knowledge of teaching Music within a secondary school (we will consider applications from NQTs and experienced teachers);

• Excellent subject and curriculum knowledge;

• Record of / commitment to outstanding teaching and pupil progress;

• Experience of or a commitment to wider school responsibilities;

• Able to commit to holding extra-curricular music clubs and accompany pupils to performances;

• Excellent interpersonal interpersonal and organisational skills;

• A motivator, by example, of pupils, staff and parents;

• An appreciation and an understanding of a school at the heart of the community.
