Job Description
Opened in the early 1970’s to provide secondary education for the North West area of Edinburgh, Craigmount High School draws its students mainly from the areas served by the following primary schools: Corstorphine, East Craigs, Fox Covert, Hillwood and Roseburn. The school is co-educational and non denominational and welcomes students from any social, ethnic or religious background in keeping with The City of Edinburgh Council's policies on equal opportunities. We receive a high number of placing requests. We are very proud to be an Inclusion Resource school, with a small number of students in each year-group benefiting from this extra support.

The school is firmly committed to raising attainment and promoting achievement. This is a whole school priority in the improvement plan and reflects local CEC and national priorities. Attainment is high, and out-performs many other schools local and national measures. Key initiatives this term include Rights Respecting Schools, STEM and Growth MIndset. We also have a very rich extra-curricular programme involving all subjects. High quality music events enrich school life and our Active Schools programme is extensive.

The current Craigmount High School was rebuilt on part of the original site in 2003 to provide a new three storey building with integral sports and community facilities. The design provides a main entrance that opens into a social space providing a welcoming aspect for students, teachers and visitors alike. The school has excellent teaching accommodation with 39 general classrooms - English, Maths, Modern Languages and Information and Communication Technologies, 12 purpose built Information and Communication Technologies labs, 3 Food & Consumer Technology kitchens and a fabric room, 2 CDT workshops and 3 graphic drawing rooms, 2 Drama classrooms and a Drama Studio. Accommodation in the PE department includes a games hall, gymnasium, dance studio, fitness room and changing rooms. The Music department has 4 classrooms with separate practice and recording rooms. There is also a large library and an audio-visual room. The Business Studies and Computing departments between them have 7 classrooms and Art and Design has 4 classrooms with facilities for pottery and an audio visual room.

A suite of classrooms and offices provides co-ordinated support for students from Pupil Support Staff.

We welcome applications from student-centred professionals with high expectations, commitment and rigorous standards. A willingness to contribute to whole-school life is also a defining characteristic of our highly motivated and excellent staff. The senior leadership team is comprised of the HT, Business Manager, and 3 DHTs.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
