 RESPONSIBILITIES


All teachers have a responsibility to carry out the list of duties contained in Annex B of the
Agreement “A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century”.
Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority, the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall workload related to the following categories:-
(a) Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
(b) Developing the school curriculum
(c) Assessing, recording and reporting the work of pupils
(d) Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
(e) Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
(f) Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
(g) Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
(h) Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
(i) Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and
individual review
(j) Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school


Curriculum


It is expected that, within the guidelines of the authority and within each school's framework for the delivery of the curriculum, all teachers will undertake, individually, and collaboratively as appropriate, duties allocated from the following list:

  • Teach assigned classes
  • Plan coherent and progressive teaching programmes that match pupils’ needs and abilities
  • Develop teaching and assessment materials
  • Use the results of assessment to evaluate and improve teaching, and the learning and attainment of pupils
  • Set and maintain targets and the pace of work for all pupils
  • Prepare pupils for internal and external assessments
  • Assist with the administration of internal and external assessment
  • Record, monitor and report on pupil progress
  • Meet with parents/carers to report on pupil progress and ongoing educational needs
  • Contribute to the effective running of stage/curricular area/subject/department
  • Contribute to development planning, evaluation and quality improvement processes

Eastwood High School is one of 7 secondary schools within East Renfrewshire and is the six-year, non-denominational, comprehensive school serving the communities of Newton Mearns, Neilston and Uplawmoor. The catchment also has a large rural hinterland and the school receives a significant number of pupils on placing request from the south side of Glasgow. There is significant housing development within the catchment of Eastwood High School resulting in the school enjoying a rising school roll.

Eastwood High School works within the context of the Local Improvement Plan of East Renfrewshire Council's Education Department and the Key Priorities of the National Improvement Framework.

Eastwood High School has 4 associated primaries - Mearns Primary School, Crookfur Primary School, Neilston Primary School and Uplawmoor Primary School. In addition Isobel Mair School is also part of the "Eastwood Cluster" of schools. All the schools work in very close partnership as a cluster team to ensure cohesion and continuity in the curriculum from 3 - 18.

Eastwood High School has a current roll of 1111 pupils. 6% of the pupils reside within SIMD 1-3 areas, 33% within SIMD 4-7 areas and 61% within SIMD 8-10 areas. 8.7% of pupils are in receipt of free school meals, 16% have an additional support need and 28% are from a BAME background. There are also small numbers of care experienced pupils, looked after pupils and pupils who are refugees; all of whom are an important part of the fabric of a fully comprehensive school.
