Job overview

Palmers Green High School (PGHS) seeks to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join the Music Department.

At PGHS you will be teaching bright, interested and hard-working pupils in an academically selective girls’ independent school.  The Department works collaboratively to get the very best from all of the pupils and our record of success in public examinations is outstanding.  PGHS is ranked 2nd in The Sunday Times Parent Power League Table 2017 for small independent schools based on the percentage of A*/A grades at GCSE.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach Music across the age range in both the Lower and Senior Schools.

Palmers Green High School is an independent day school for approximately 300 girls aged 3-16 years.  At PGHS we provide a stimulating and supportive environment in which high academic achievement and broad personal development go hand in hand.  The School was founded in 1905 by Miss Alice Hum, a Quaker, and the ideas of integrity and care implicit in the founding philosophy have been maintained in the face of changing standards in society.  One of our main strengths and attractions to parents is the ‘one school’ ethos, which ensures a smooth transition for pupils as they proceed from the Lower School to the Senior School.  The average teaching group size in the Senior School is 12 pupils.

We are an ambitious school and recent developments have included the installation of bespoke teaching walls in classrooms and a brand new music suite and school library.

Salary is in accordance with the PGHS Scale.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 11th March 2018 at 12 noon and interviews are anticipated to take place during the week commencing 19th March 2018.

Our class sizes and exceptional pastoral care offer a level of personal attention that is unrivalled, and which allows every pupil to be their individual, authentic self. This, alongside excellent examination results at GCSE and extensive opportunities beyond the curriculum, means that pupils are well-prepared for the next phase in their academic careers and go on to the sixth forms and universities of their choice.

Equipping Girls for Success

We believe passionately in girls’ education. Focused teaching groups ensure outstanding pupil engagement, collaboration and communication in lessons and allow our inspirational teachers to provide individualised support and challenge. This contributes to our excellent results and pupils’ readiness to lead successful lives, excelling in their chosen field.

Building Skills for the Future

Developing skills such as risk-taking and problem-solving, PGHS girls are fully equipped for the 21st century through the excellent resources and high-quality teaching in Science, Design & Technology, Computing and Maths. Curiosity sparked, many pupils continue STEM subjects at A-Level and beyond.

From rugby to rounders, swimming to street dance, tennis to trampolining, sport at PGHS has something for everyone. With access to extensive offsite facilities, girls are encouraged to find an activity – whether recreational or competitive – that they are passionate about, creating happy, healthy individuals.
