Job overview

Northampton School for Girls (NSG) is an Ofsted Outstanding, state-funded, comprehensive school on the outskirts of Northampton. We celebrate the diversity of our multi-faith, multi-cultural student base and the mix of rural and urban communities which we serve.

In a world where the agenda for women has progressed but is also still evolving, we want to equip our students with the self-confidence, creativity, and resilience to become the inspiring women of the future.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of Music who can evidence strong subject knowledge, high quality teaching, and who will join us in using music to help our students to express themselves, develop confidence, and enjoy learning.

Music plays a key role in the life of the school. NSG was the first school in the country to achieve Specialist Music College status. As a result the school has outstanding music facilities which include the very latest technology, the Spinney Theatre, an outside performance space, and outstanding rehearsal rooms. Our students have access to a theatre equipped to professional standards and, not only do they benefit from performing in such surroundings, many also become skilled in using sophisticated lighting and sound technology.

We are justifiably proud of our achievements in the expressive and performing arts. Recent events include concerts, jazz evenings, dance shows, musicals, and art exhibitions to name just a few. As a music college, we embrace our students’ musical talents and encourage them to participate in one or more of our many music groups, ensembles or clubs. All students are entitled to instrumental lessons, with instruction being provided by our team of peripatetic music teachers. Many of our most able musicians are supported in achieving places at music colleges and conservatoires around the country. Our musical ensembles play and compete on a national level and have received countless awards and accolades.

If you are looking for a school that encourages high standards, has a focus on the development of the whole child, instils a level of respect in the students and will support your career development to help you achieve your potential, then Northampton School for Girls could be for you.

If you have any questions, please email us:  personnel@nsg.northants.sch.uk

Interview date: Monday, 25 March 2019.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a criminal records check, via the Disclosure & Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by NSG.
