We would like to appoint a motivated and creative musician who has the drive to encourage all pupils to foster a love of music and to participate in extra-curricular activities. You will be teaching curriculum music in both the Senior Schools and Primary Division. We are particularly looking for a skilled pianist.
The Faculty
The Creative and Performing Arts Faculty at Bury Grammar School is a thriving team of fifteen members of staff. We are committed to enabling our students to benefit from the very best standards of teaching and are proud of our departmental culture of collaboration. The departments in the Faculty are Art & Design, Drama, Music, Design & Technology and Food. We provide a wide range of opportunities within the Faculty to encourage our pupils to maximise their potential and thus promoting a sense of challenge, curiosity and risk-taking in an inspirational and supportive environment. The Faculty has a strong enrichment programme and contributes an enormous and valuable amount to the wider life of the school with pupils across the schools spending much of their extra-curricular time within these departments. We organise many educational visits to art galleries, the theatre and music recitals, as well as students taking part in external competitions. We host an annual Art Exhibition and the School Production is one of the highlights of the school year attracting sellout performances.
The Teacher of Music is expected to actively contribute to an ambitious Music programme to stretch and challenge our most able musicians while encouraging musical enjoyment for all. We are looking for a strong performer, in the classroom and/or other platforms, a sense of imagination and a commitment to the role, who has a clear ambition and enthusiasm for Music, and will be fully involved in the life of the school. The successful applicant also needs to have a love of Music of many different forms, a desire to encourage pupils to perform Music and to respond to it with enjoyment and understanding and motivation to work with pupils and young people. They will be recognised as an outstanding musician and teacher: dynamic and imaginative. They will lead by example to motivate and work with others, when implementing initiatives and managing change and will maintain the culture of inclusion within the school community where all views are valued and considered. Essential skills include the direction, conducting and development of choirs and orchestras/bands and experience accompanying and working from the keyboard (ideally, we are looking for a skilled pianist). Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to get on with a wide range of people and to support and encourage musicians of all abilities. Well-developed organisational and IT skills are expected, and an understanding that the work of the Music department at Bury Grammar School is not limited to the hours of the school day.
