Part-time Teacher of Music (0.5FTE)

September 2019

Salary: MPS/UPS

Plympton Academy seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Music to join our highly successful Performing Arts Department. The candidate needs to have a drive for Music educating and have excellent musicianship skills with a love for working with students. An understanding or experience with Btec/RSL curriculum would be an advantage and a willingness to develop and drive a specific area of the dept such as music technology, instrumental music or popular music.

The music department has undergone massive change in the last 2 years and strives for excellence with the ethos that everyone can be involved in Music. We are developing our extra-curricular programme to ensure all genres and aspects of music are included, providing opportunities for all. We have a newly refurbished recording studio and linked live lounge area and students are able to book out this space as well as practise rooms to rehearse and record.  Students are able to learn instruments within the curriculum following a heavily practical Scheme of Work, students currently take individual lessons on Drums, Guitar, Bass, Piano, Vocals, cornet and Saxophone.

You will be joining a department with an excellent long term track record of academic success, with opportunities to be fully immersed in the enrichment area of this subject.  We have a new £2m Performing Arts block so we can offer state of the art facilities to support you in inspiring the young people in our care.

The successful candidate will be passionate about Music , dedicated to providing exceptional learning experiences in the classroom, and keen to contribute to wider aspects of the department and Academy life. The position is suitable for NQT’s and experienced teachers.

“I am proud to be Principal of Plympton Academy. Proud of our students and proud of our staff. The school is an exciting place to learn and to work.

We want all students to share that pride – in themselves, and in their school – so that they can learn well and make outstanding progress. I know that all parents want the very best for their children. This is why we have the highest expectations of our students. We expect them to be outstanding, resilient learners and we expect them to behave well in all aspects of school life.

We are passionate about nurturing exceptional, resilient, independent thinkers who are happy and confident individuals, equipped with the skills and knowledge to be the best they are.

Our students are involved in every aspect of school life beyond the classroom: extra-curricular activities are always available and our students play an active role in shaping the future of the school through a wide range of student leadership activities. We aim to ensure that the opportunities that life presents are open to all of our students, whatever their destination. We aim to inspire success.
